#41Clemens had some pretty bad years as well. Seems like when he started having blister problems last season, that's when he fell off. I think he'll bounce back eventually - just probably not this season and that means the Tigers could be in trouble.Comment -

#42Verlander during this season is a perfect example of why athletes should get paid by performance only... not long term deals. Guy clearly ISN'T EVEN CLOSE in earning the money during this contract.Comment -

#44Free agency in sports is about speculation. Very few would've speculated that he'd become the very worst pitcher on the Tigers just a couple years into his deal. This happens in every sport. Tigers benefited from the epic f\*\*k up that is the Marlins organization. Just appreciate what talented baseball people are able to do, like those in the Athletics organization that find gems like Brandon Moss and Yoenis Cespedes.Comment -

#45The thing is most of these guys are underpaid while they put up the huge numbers early in their careers and then get overpaid late in their careers.Comment -

MLB isn't like the NFL where you have to perform to maintain that money you rake in.
Guys get lazy and don't give a fukk.
Verlander can be a cokk the rest of his career he will still have a quarter of a billion in earnings when he retires.
I don't really agree with the way the NFL works either, but I think the NFL and MLB could meet somewhere in between down the road and make it to where just because you sign a big contract doesn't mean you don't have to perform, and at the same time they can't just cut you and not pay you either.Comment -

#48I dont understand why when teams going shopping for free agents the do not take the rate
the player is declining into consideration....I mean he declined 4 straight years. It might not
have been possible to guess this blow out this soon but yea another year sure it was visible.
Teams want to spend money paying for past preformance then dont cry when you realize oh
that was in the past. MBL should be a what have you done for me lately pay scale why it isnt
who knowsComment -

#49books finally have adjusted, he is + money today against Cleveland. Near 5 era and he has given 38 earned runs in his last 7 outings. Perhaps a DL stint in his future? Gotta be some sort of injury, with that being said his pretty much an auto fade the rest of the seasonComment -

#54shocking that he was - money today. Not sure why RYU doesn't get anywhere near the publicity of the other asian pitchers. He has done well last season and once again putting up decent numbers again this year, but you never see him get mentioned.Comment -

#60This is the problem with giving huge money to any pitcher. They lose it so quickly. In the first instance it's tough to know who's going to pan out and then they get injured left and right and then when you think you've locked up an ace they lose their stuff. Building a powerhouse lineup and then staying agile to develop and acquire pitching is the way to go.Comment -
