There are far worse places to stay than the Stratosphere. But I'd say good luck finding a time when Vegas isn't full of tourists. Not like curious isn't one of them himself...

I heard the rooms aren't that bad at the Stratosphere. You got a great deal at $22 per night, probably rooms are better than most downtown hotel minus the Golden Nugget. Vegas won' be crowded after the race Sunday. Have a great time in Vegas!

Well, there will only be about 40,000 people here for conventions next week (plus the general tourists). So it shouldn't be very crowded Mon-Wed.

LOL I will be the biggest tourist. Without my wife around I will wear stripes and plaid, that type of thing.

No its not THAT bad....its a bed to sleep in and for $22 a night you really can't beat it.

It is a lot better than a place like Circus Circus where I would advise you to take a sleeping bag with you if you were staying there because i wouldn't want to sleep between those sheets...

I concur, the first time I stayed in Vegas I was in the Stratosphere and it's definitely the best value place I've been in and better quality than a lot of the strip hotels. Anyone dissing the Stratosphere has surely never ventured into Circus Circus.

Even worse: Tropicana. I've walked into the bathrooms at the Tropicana several times and seen cockroaches scurrying around. And their rooms in one of its wings are sub-par for even Motel-6...

There are certainly worse places than stratosphere. Its not that bad actually. teeny tiny sportsbook though.
Excalibur also has rates around $35 and is a more centralized location also has a $25 all day buffet....

MGM is running an all-day buffet as well (for $29.95 I believe). The MGM buffet is quite a bit better. You don't have to stay at either to take advantage of them. But it's a bit of a ripoff if you ask me. You'd have to eat every meal there throughout the day in order to make it worthwhile. I'm not big on buffets, though. And I'd actually choose the Stratosphere over Excalibur as far as room quality, even though it is slightly further away from the majority of the strip.

The Excalibur recently remodeled a bunch of their rooms, they look a lot like treasure islands w/ flat screens and everything..not complete crap holes anymore.

Never done an MGM buffet, it kinda pains me to drop over 20 on a buffet though, i'll have to admit. if i do a buffet it's usually a local station's.

Statosphere is ok, just small rooms. But who cares because I dont spend much time in them anyways. You will also have to walk a little bit to get to the other casinos, unless you are driving around.

Yeah. The Stations blow for halves/halftimes and totals, especially NCAAB. They only have a few (at most) five inning lines during baseball too.

The RJ said they were just trying to restructure their debt and that the owners were going to inject an additional $125 million into their liquidity. That was a while back though. Not sure if things have changed. Wasn't Boyd making a bid to buy them out? Not sure how practical that is since they had to halt construction on Echelon themselves...

Yeah Boyd made a bid but it was only for certain properties. That would suck. I hate just about everything they own.

They did halt work on the Echelon but they have deep pockets and probably didn't want to hang themselves like MGM is doing w/ City Center i'm thinking...

They can have Monte Carlo. That actually suits Boyd pretty well. That casino is so bland and boring. I'm partial to the Wynn lately, especially with the Wynn Classic starting today. Last week it was the Venetian. Heh. It all depends what's going on. I'm in them too much to have a favorite I guess. There are a few that I hate, however, like Tropicana, Riviera, Circus Circus, and Harrahs.
