Falcons sign Ryan to 6-year deal
I'm glad to see that the Falcons got this deal done this early before training camp started, because he needs to learn the new system ASAP. Due to the fact that by week 7 or 8 he will be starting for them IMO

Falcons sign Ryan to 6-year deal

ATLANTA (AP)—Matt Ryan has signed a six-year, $72-million contract with the Atlanta Falcons.

Ryan, the No. 3 overall pick in last month’s NFL draft, is guaranteed $34.75 million in the deal signed Tuesday. Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts confirms the signing and says the team has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday night.

Ryan’s guaranteed money is $4.75 million more than received by Jake Long, the No. 1 overall pick who also is represented by agent Tom Condon.

Ryan worked behind quarterbacks Chris Redman and Joey Harrington at his first minicamp with the team this month, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the former Boston College star earns the starting job in 2008.

This contract stinks for the league for MANY reasons. I guess the Falcons are desperate to get the "Vick" stink out of their house - by giving a 3rd overall pick the most guarenteed money ever (or damn close to it). Horrible deal if you asked me, this sets a terrible precident.

Makes since pay the rookies a ton of money and stiff the veterans. Great business plan

Great incentive for college players who play for free. Let them think that someday they might get that brass ring. Don't forget that college football is the NFL's minor league.
