    Really like Baltimore -3, but...............
    I don't want to pay -125..

Well first let's analyse this one a bit.

Neither SF nor Balt have an offense but at least Baltimore has a smothering run defense that has only allowed 3.0ypc.

SF will have to win by passing the ball and with Alex Smith gone 49ers are relying on Dilfer to get it done.

I think Baltimore gets it done here.

any thoughts on the game and the line?

    Thanks.

I dunno, call it superstitious but I'm always wary when key players face former teams (just look at Culpepper last week). Remember Dilfer was Baltimore's Super Bowl MVP and then they rewarded him by releasing him. I'm sure Dilfer would love the chance to get some payback.

who is to say Alex Smith out is bad thing? Smith has done nothing this year to make me think it is a downgrade to have Dilfer.

This Ravens team is reverting back to its old way. Last year they had a run, but its over. Their lack of defense will make bad offenses look good.....

I have to agree with everything in your post, my thoughts exactly. The 3 won't last, thats obvious. Why are the books dangling this carrot in front of us with A. Smith out?

Can we compare this at all to Griese starting last week with the Bears? Can we expect Dilfer to make mistakes this week? Your right, it comes down to the Dilfer question. Both pass D's are equally average. I have to lean Ravens here.

The rankings point to Baltimore: SF offense(32nd), SF D (20th), Baltimore Offense (T8th?), Ravens D(10th).

Traveling to the west coast will not do the Ravens any favors as the question of McNair's groin and Boller's ability is still in doubt. True, Dilfer has a lot to prove to his former team, but the question is where is that vaulted Ravens' D? The Baltimore Defense seems to be tired in the 4th quarter as teams like the Jets and Cardinals almost came back to beat them in Baltimore. The Ravens could be 0-4 right now.

BAL beat AZ (at BAL 26-23, week 3), SF beat AZ (at SF 20-17, week 1)

The 49ers have also played poorly of late, and Dilfer looked out of sync last week v. Seattle at home. Dilfer will have had the benefit of taking all the snaps this week in preparation. While +3 for SF is not much, I think SF has the potential to win this game outright with an improved Dilfer and Gore - unless SF's 20th ranked defense allows McBoller to pick them apart. What I am saying here is that this game could go either (and any) way.

If I had to pick a spread winner for this game, my hunch is to go with the 49ers because of Baltimore's potentially lackluster performance away from home.

BAL -3.5 LOOKS GOOD BUT I'D BUY IT DOWN TO -2.5;; DILFER IS A WILDCARD HERE AND NO TELLING WHAT HE WILL DO BUT HE ONLY WORRRIES ME A SMALL BIT

BAL SHOULD BOUNCE BAK FROM STINKER IN CLE AND SF OFFENSE IS QUITE STALE

                  Austin,
Did you watch Dilfer this past Sunday? I'm not saying Alex Smith is going to the HOF, but Trent was BRUTAL.

Yes, Trent has won a Super Bowl...albeit as a "caretaker QB" whose sole job was to not turn the ball over and wait for the defense to win the game. The 49ers do not have the kind of talent for Trent to play "caretaker QB" and have them win.

Will Trent be better this week? Possibly. But if Trent were as good as Alex...he'd be starting.

Thats a good point Doc. As jon13009 pointed out the Ravens D has vaporized. Since looking at defensive numbers will do us no good. Let me pose this: who wins time of possession? I tend to think Dilfer will make more mistakes.

Trent could provide the spark on offense, but are they capable of making a few big plays in the passing game with Difler at QB. San Fran's defense should be solid but I haven't seen the San Fran WR's do anything all year and their TE Vernon Davis will be out. I'm lening towards Baltimore.

SF has been the worst passing team in the league so far, averaging a terrible 3.7 yds per pass. Dilfer was actually worse on Sunday than Smith had been (which was horrible), but I'd expect him to do better going forward.

I don't really have an opinion on this game either way yet.

I think Baltimores defense and special teams could probably win this one on their own. SF's offense is brutal.

If Bal can stop Gore which they should at least contain him then -3 isn't bad. I don't have much enthusiasm for Dilfer.

The pass D of SF isn't bad but they don't have a good Rush D. Hopefully McGahee will run often.

Bal O has almost 150y/g more than SF.

I will add probably add Bal in a teaser for week 5.

FYI looks like Alex Smith might be done for 2007.

From ESPN: "If the diagnosis performed at Stanford is confirmed by Andrews, the source said that it is expected Smith would opt to have corrective surgery immediately even though he would likely miss the rest of the season."

I think the Ravens look a good bet but they are not as good on D this year and last week was awful.

The 49ers are under performing this year compared to their talent hence I do worry they could turn the corner.

Anyone know how Gore's hand is holding up?
