Favre storyline is, IMO, the more "lucrative" of the 2 where drawing in viewers is concerned between Minneapolis and Saints. I hate saying it, having lived in NOLA, but just feel that reality is the whole "recovery from the devastation of Katrina" angle is not as powerful as seeing if the "old man" can close out his career by winning the Super Bowl.
Especially after his whole (too well documented) "I'm retired, I'm unretired, I'm retired, I'm coming back no wait I've had enough, I'm back!!" merry-go-round.
Humans are attracted to (the myth of?) "Destiny". I ain't smart enough to say if destiny really exists but this angle...."destiny"...is present only really within this matchup on the Favre side of this deal. Could "destiny" be squeezed from the Katrina "comeback"??, yeah to some degree but do "we" wanna go down that path again? Parts of the city are still wholly devestated, untouched....9th Ward is still worse than some 3rd world countries and theres nothing to be gained by rehashing images of the disaster...people don't wanna see it.
No one (outside of New Orleans and) with an IQ higher than that of a Crawfish really believes that Saints winning a Super Bowl would really mean anything in the grand scheme of NOLA coming back from Katrina. Its a fukking football team for Chrissakes!!!
So Minnesota Vikings are the 1st half of the equation.
Then we have NYJ v. Colts.
Colts and Manning have a Super Bowl already, no intense appeal there seeing if Manning can win another, no one cares, we know he's good. Attraction though in seeing if Favre can out duel (whats considered by many to be) the best team in NFL.....to get another SB win himself...
Don't lose sight of the fact though that there is still resentment amongst some of the public against Colts for giving away the perfect season. Doing so in such a way as to keep the very team alive that they now have to get past....to boot!!
More than a few wanna see the Jets take down the team that extended that "charity" to them. Poetic Justice in the eyes of some......Colts falling to The Jets.
The cherry on top though, what makes NYJ the more lucrative team to go to The Bowl: ESPN, NFL Network (and CBS) will have 2 weeks to promote the HELL out of the fact that Rex Ryan's dad Buddy was a rookie coach for NYJ when Namath and the Jets upset The Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III forty-one years ago...despite being 18-point underdogs.
Jets would be underdogs also in this Super Bowl whether facing Minny or N'awlinz so.... Jets as this would equate to a 2nd Ryan (son of the Father these many many years later) as rookie coach with a chance to win the big one.
For the same team.
NYJ to SB would mean a chance for the networks to relive Super Bowl III and wallow in the great history of NFL, drive this home to viewers.....a large number of which would be largely if not altogether unfamiliar with the events surrounding Super Bowl III.....and the history of the NFL.
Convince me that the NFL would not enjoy that.....such a great opportunity to toot the NFL history-horn...take young viewers down that path. Tell me how NFL would not prefer that to Manning on the stage.

All that aside, The "Destiny" angle seems to be to be among the strongest "cards" in the arsenal of TV to attract viewership. Favre vs. Jets equal that.
Not to mention that Favre was with Jets last year. So we have all that as well.
So thats the answer.

Of course NYJ are more "comfortable" in this spot....Manning and The Colts manage to lose to NYJ here and they're gonna look like complete IDIOTS having laid down against these very JETS.....big part of the reason they are even here.....maybe even figuring JETS would be the easier matchup.
Colts blow it here (or JETS rise UP!!) and Indianapolis is the laughingstock of the NFL for a WHILE....until they win a Super Bowl at least....maybe FOREVER!!!
One problem though...well....several potential problems really: Manning 68% completion % vs. BLITZ, can NYJ HANG just running the ball???? and if they don't and they fall BEHIND and Sanchez is forced to throw...well....you know as well as I do.
