    Big East Saturday
    12:00p

    CONNECTICUT HUSKIES @ 21-5 VILLANOVA WILDCATS 16-9
    February 23, 12:00 PM | Villanova Pavilion

Connecticut is going to put there 10 game winning streak on the line saturday afternoon. The Huskies have survived some scares as of late beating DePaul by 5 @ home and hitting a buzzer beating jumper to beat South Florida on the road. Uconn has done a great job just finding away to win games late. 8 of the 10 games won during this streak have been decided by 7 points or less. 4 of the 10 were road games that were won by a total of 9 points. Jim Calhoun is one of the best coaches in the game, and really helps this team in late game situations.

The Huskies are being lead by a cast of players. AJ Price is having a career season, that all started with the suspension of then leading scorer Jerome Dyson. This kid has ice water in his vains. He wants the ball late in the game, and is terrific when attacking the hoop. He avg's 15ppg 4 rebounds and 6+ assists. His devlopement has really been a joy to watch. Although we can't speak about devlopement w/o mentioning the play of Hasheem Thabeet. His game has improved tremendously. He is playing with a ton of confidence and really controls the paint. He is responsible for alot of missed shots that don't show up in the stat sheets. Thabeet avg's 10+ points and just under 8 boards, along with a few blocks as well. Their frontcourt also includes Jeff Adrien who avg's 14+ ppg and 9+ rebounds inside. UConn also get contributions from F Stanley Robinson and G Doug Wiggins.

Coach Jay Wright finally has his team on the right track. Villanova has been the biggest disapointment in the conference this season, and they are starting to show their potential. They have won 3 of 4 with their lone loss coming on a horrible foul call @ Georgetown with 0.1 seconds left on the clock. This team has been on a mission as of late and they are really playing solid basketball.

The Wildcats are going to go as far as Scottie Reynolds takes them. This guy is one of the more feared players in the country. He has a ton of range and some nice moves with the rock to go with it. He can score from anywhere on the court, and when he plays under control, he simply cannot be defended. His partner in the backcourt is Corey Fisher. Corey has stepped up his game lately and is taking some pressure off of Scottie which is creating matchup problems for defenses. Shane Clark and Dante Cunningham are solid interior players on both sides of the ball.

Villanova needs this win if they have any chance of making the Big Dance. It is a very prime oppurtunity for the Wildcats as they get a shot a very good team @ home. The Cats should come into this matcup playing loose because their confidence has grown over their last 4 games.

The Huskies have survived alot of close games, especially on the road. I look for the Wildcats to come in fired up with their new found confidence and jump on the Huskies early. The crowd should be amped up for this big time contender coming to town, and I'll probaly take the short drive into philly and attend this game myself.

    Score Prediction: 63 - 61

Im hoping to get some points in this matchup and run with the home dog saturday afternoon. Ill post back my plays for the game when the line opens.

        CINCINNATI BEARCATS 13-12 @ GEORGETOWN HOYAS 21-4
        February 23, 12:00 PM | Verizon Center

Cincinnati has been a nice surprise this season in the Big East. They only won 2 conference games all season last year, and they are currently 8-5. Believe it or not but that is only 2.5 games back from 1st place! Mick Cronin has his guys finding ways to win as they come into this matchup on a 3 game winning streak. If this team gets to 10 wins in this conference they deserve a NCAA bid IMO. However, they won't get one because of all there losses in non conference.

The Bearcats are lead by Deonta Vaughn who avg's over 17ppg and gets everybody involved. The only other player in double figures is John Williamson who also contributes on the glass. This team is not all that talented top to bottom, but they are very deep and get alot of little things from many different players. They are well schooled and handle late game situations w/ confidence and poise.

The Hoyas are 2-2 in their last 4 games, and haven't played there best ball as of late. I still consider them the best team in the Big East because they are a veteran team, and can handle tough situations. They don't score in bunches, however they methodically put the ball in the hoop. They are very paitent with the ball and will not force bad shots.

The zone has killed this team since Rick Pitino and his Cardinals showed the nation how to beat them. They have not tried to attack the rim at all recently and that is so key into attacking the zone if your not lighting it up from distance. More importantly the key has been the 3 quarter court press. Opponets are not using this to try to get a steal or even a 10 second violation. The idea is just to take more time of the shot clock, which Georgetown likes to use every second of. This is slowing them into not getting into their sets until around 20 on the clock.

Roy Hibbert provides them a huge 7'2 target that enables them to throw the ball into the zone, and look for the kickout. He will normally find Johnathan Wallace who is a very good shooter, one of the best in the conference. Jesse Sapp has really let me down of late, he still hitting some big shots, but he needs to dribble drive and draw the defenders in. DaJuan Summers has been gettin frustrated from the zone defenses and he is settling for too many jump shots. Patrick Ewing Jr. has been the key to their survival of late. Georgetown has really been able to parlay his energy off the bench that he brings to the defensive end. His effort in key situations have helped tremendously.

Look for the Bearcats to try to duplicate the works of the zone and slow the already paitence Hoyas offense. Georgetown defense is going to foucs on Deonta Vaughn and make the supporting cast beat them. Cincy is going to have no answer for Hibbert inside, but the zone should make it harder to get him on the block. He will be high alot of the time around the foul line, trying to enter the eye of the zone.

        Score Prediction: Hoyas 62 - Bearcats 54.

Hoping for a total around 130 and jump on the under.

Dont you think that the line will come down? I think Nova is still the play. I think Cincinnati would be a good double digit dog too. Beating Georgetown would put them on the fast track to an at large bid in the NCAA I'd think

I guess when you think about it, Nova really does need to win this game outright. With Scottie Reynolds and home court I see it happening. Not to mention that UConn has been dodging bullets for a while now

I agree with Villanova needing this game and UConn dodging bullets with all these close games of late, but I think UConn will win this game. I think it will be a tight game, but UConn has shown they can win close games and seem to come through down the stretch. I see them putting it together again and coming away with the W.

I don't think they can pull out the win. They just won't enough scoring oppurtunties against the hoyas defense. I hope they can stay w/in the 13.5, i parlayed it w/ the under 121.
