    American Conference Thread
Bunch of games in the American today. Let’s take a quick glance at the slate.

We have Memphis vs USF. Penny’s team plays hard and gets out in transition, which is sort of the opposite of Brian Gregory’s much improved USF squad who are big, tough, and like to grind it out. USF has been a spread convering machine this year. No real lean in this just intrigued by the matchup. Do we fade USF at any point or ride them into the sunset?

Tulsa pays a visit to the roundhouse in Wichita this afternoon. That BTK serial killer documentary on 20/20 last night creeped me out. Wichita won a much needed contest against SMU last time out. They are definitely better than their record shows as Marshall’s boys showed poise and confidence down the stretch of that game. Tulsa is the better team but wouldn’t be surprised if the Shockers win another close one at home as they are not ready to start blowing teams out yet. I think it comes down to the wire.

Temple visits NOLA to play Tulane. Tulane has played better recently and is still looking for their first conference win. Tulane has a penchant for playing well at home. Bad news is that Temple is equally as hungry for win after coming off two losses. I think Tulane covers the double digit spread but lose again at home.

The Mustangs visit Cincy as double digit dogs. The Mustangs are again reeling from LB sanctions and injuries. I think McMurray gets locked down and the Bearcats slowly build a bigger and bigger lead as the game progresses. I’d lay the points with the Bearcats.

Any thoughts or opinions on these games are much appreciated? Good luck today!

Going to start tracking wins and losses when I bet this conference. Tail, fade, or stay away, it doesn’t matter to me. I’ll give my two cents and offer a pick.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday! We have one game in the American Conference and it’s UConn vs East Carolina. This will be a tough matchup for East Carolina not only from a talent standpoint but also from the way these two teams play. East Carolina struggles with teams that like to get into you defensively like USF, SMU, and Houston. They got blown out in these games. Uconn’s Defense under Hurley has been tough as they assert their will against weaker opponents like Tulane. I expect UConn to push the pace and get out in transition. Looks like Alterique Gilbert might be out so that sort of hurts. But I still don’t think this matchup will be close at all. I’ll side with Jalen Adams, Christina Vitale, and Tyler Polly.

      Pick - UConn -13.5

Good luck and enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday!

Sunday Recap and Storyline: UConn pulls away late to dominate ECU by 20+ with Jalen Adams on the bench. Josh Carlton man-handles the ECU big men in the paint. His development is something to pay attention to as UConn continues to progress under Hurley’s leadership and, most importantly, COVER SPREADS.

For Wednesday night, we are back in the American. Wichita State visitis East Carolina. The Shockers are a different team away from the roundhouse and 6 points is a little too much to ask for a team that has struggled on the road. ECU keeps it low scoring and close. Jaylen Gardner is a load In the post and matches Markus Mcduffie’s offensive output.

          Pick: ECU +6

                Wednesday Recap 1-2

The Good: ECU under covered cause they can’t score. Good.

The Bad: Temple game would of headed over if Jalen Adams didn’t get hurt early on. Still just a bucket off. O well.

The Ugly: ECU got blown out. I cringed when I put it in partly because I felt I had to play it cause I posted it. From now I’m going to place the bet then post. Still learning.

                  Thursday’s American Plays

Gotta go with UCF at home. They played Houston tough last year and they didn’t have Fall, Dawkins, and some of their contributing role players. It might be real close but I think UCF’s point guard BJ Taylor leads them to a W.

                  Pick: UCF +2

                      Recap:

UCF didn’t come to play and their offense looked disjointed as it has at times this season. Their foul shooting remains a putrid display. Full ride to college to play ball and yet can’t step up to the line to knock down a foul shot. Sad.

USF continues to be a spread covering machine this year. What a turnaround for this team. Brian Gregory will win coach of the year in the American Conference.

I got disappointed by UCF, and I was on the fence on taking USF, wish I saw this thread to push me into it!

Yeah man, UCF has really burned me this year. They played tight and didn’t rise to the occasion like so many home teams do during conference play. Some of their against the spread losses came down to missed free throws. Brutal. Johnny Dawkins is also a really poor coach. Their offense is so out of whack. Even when they are up big, they will let lesser talented teams right back in the game due to a stagnant offense and poor defensive schemes.

As for the Temple game tomorrow, I think they win. They are really locked in this year. I was at the UConn game and Temple’s offense was firing on all cylinders. Temple’s primary weakness is rebounding. Not sure how Tulsa is on the boards but Big Erns presence should negate some of that if he is healthy. Justyn Hamilton’s offense was a pleasant surprise for The Owls last game. Nate Pierre Louis is a heck of a defender and will likely guard Tulsa’s best offensive weapon. I watched Tulsa play UCF earlier in the year. They are good but they are too reliant on only a few scorers named Taplin and Jefferies. The Owls have multiple scoring options and a few decent bench players. I like Temple, but I’m also an alum. Temple should win and cover in my opinion.

                            Saturday’s Picks

Tulsa ranks 322nd in rebounding margin. That’s all I need to hear.

                            Pick: Temple -2.5

And just like that Temple’s bubble gets busted, Fran Dunphy is one of the most overrated coaches in college b-ball. Retirement can’t come soon enough for that guy.

13.5 point spread in The Tulane Wichy game. Tulane stinks especially on the road so I’ll rage bet Wichita

                              Add: Wichita State -13.5

I really like Memphis to crush UConn tomorrow. Memphis elevates their game at home. They are coming off a few losses and UConn just lost its leading scorer. UConn very depleted at the guard position.

UConn players were fouling to extend the game.Guess the refs wanted to end it. It was definitely odd. I’ve had a couple burns like this recently. It’s tough to take.

The week off from betting was nice. It felt refreshing to clear the head. I’m going to try my hand with a BIG 10 game today. Northwestern and Nebraska are both two solid defensive teams that aren’t exactly offensive juggernauts. I think Derek Pardon will give Nebraska problems in the paint and Vic Law will show up to keep it close down the stretch.

                                                Picks: Northwestern +5

problem. Northwestern had an opportunity to cover the points but the lack of a point guard and dumb turnovers screwed that up. That team is absolutely brutal offensively.

                                                      Sunday Plays:

In the American Conference, we have an offensively inept East Carolina playing a surging Tulsa team. I like The Under 140 in this game as East Carolina struggles to score but defends fairly well. Tulsa is also a decent defensive team and I think they hold East Carolina around 50-60 points.

Next, we have a game in the MAAC. Rider has been a bettor’s worst nightmare recently. Mistakes down the stretch of games have cost this talented Rider team multiple wins this year. Glaring Edge: The Broncs are among the best at #22 nationally in forcing turnovers while St Peters has turned the ball over on 24% of its possessions ranking 349th nationally. This statistic became a factor in the Tempe USF game yesterday. Rider’s point-guard Stevie Jordan will be the best player on the floor.

                                                      Picks: East Carolina Under 140
                                                      Rider -5.5

                                                      YTD: 5-6

                                                      Good luck today!

Recap: Rider finally rewards bettors with a cover by .5 point when they were up by double digits with less than a minute to go lol. Man that team is unpredictable. East Carolina played much better offensively than expected and managed to push the game to overtime. OT always spells doom for folks on the under. Tough break.

In the American, we have two bottom feeders battling out. This might be Tulanes last opportunity to earn a conference win and they know this. East Carolina has struggled mightily on the offensive end. Tulane should have enough pride and shooting to surge past at the end.

Next, we have Wichita State and Memphis. The Shockers are a team on the rise and they are even stronger at home against Penny’s Memphis team who are a completely different team on the road. There are some trends that you just can ignore.
