Arena Football: Philadelphia Soul -16 -110

These two teams played on May 2 in Los Angeles, and Philadelphia won that game by a score of 56-33. Now the Kiss travels across the country for a 3 p.m. Eastern (noon Pacific) game. This is the first road start for LA’s rookie QB Pete Thomas, who took over three weeks ago after Nathan Stanley was injured at Arizona. Philadelphia is probably the best team in the AFL right now with an 8-2 record (7-3 ATS). Prior to Stanley’s injury, LA was the lowest scoring road team in the AFL (40.3 ppg), and even though Thomas has played well in his two starts at home (one was against lowly Portland), I don’t see much reason for that to change today. Philadelphia boasts the top scoring defense in the league, giving up just under 45 ppg, is second in the AFL in sacks, and is #1 in the league in INTs. On the offensive side of the ball, Philadelphia averages 58.3 ppg and has the 2015 AFL MVP under center, Dan Raudabaugh. Raudabaugh is at or near the top of the league in every major category this season. In addition to the on-field matchups, west coast teams are just 3-8 ATS when traveling East this season. For the Kiss, this will be a noon Pacific kickoff, which is odd in a league where most games are at night. One potential issue here is that this game is not actually being played in Philadelphia. Because of preparations for the Democratic National Convention, the game is being played in Trenton, NJ instead. The unfamiliar surroundings could lead to another under for the Kiss, who have played 7 unders and no overs this season (2 pushes).
