Haha I'm hoping thats the case. I don't like the Spurs. FLOPS is right. Plus they beat my team every year, the suns. I hope they get swept...

They can't do Hack-A-Shaq, but they did try Hack-A-Chandler.

Yes I know. He'll exploit the f*ck out of that until the NBA does something about it.

Yeah, Stern needs to do something about it. Allowing that to happen is ridiculous. During the Suns series, I would see Jacque Vaughn bearhugging Shaq 90 ft away from the basket. It's unbelievable that a team would have to resort to doing something as cheap as that. Screw the Spurs and their "tough" defense. If they play tough defense, then stop the opponent. Don't foul him 90 feet away from the hoop.

Winning games is about exploiting opposing weaknesses, is it not? Whether that weakness is poor FT shooting, lack of ability to defend the pick & roll, propensity to get big men in foul trouble, etc., the weakness should be exploited.

You act as though Pop invented the Hack-a-Shaq, when in reality Pop has rarely even employed the tactic. All these guys have to do is shoot 60% from the line and keep their heads in the game to make this an ineffective strategy. I mean, get pissed at the f&cks that can't hit a FREE THROW. It's called a FREE THROW for a reason, ya know? The Hack-a-Shaq has been around since the days of Wilt Chamberlain and was popularized by Don Nelson against the late-dynasty MJ era Bulls when Rodman was on the court. Again, all these guys have to do is average > 1.1 points per possession to make this backfire and they can't do it.

It is a strategic move, but sometimes it gets to be too much. Play basketball the way it is supposed to be played. As a Laker fan, I have endured the Hack-A-Shaq, and I must say I was thoroughly pissed when teams decided to foul him 90 feet away from the basket.

                        Fair enough.

Look, in a perfect NBA we wouldn't have teams tanking like they did in 2006-07 (though it was a moneymaker fading the Bucks), there would be no Hack-a-Shaq and flopping would be policed. The Sonics wouldn't be taken out of Seattle and execs wouldn't be allowed to run teams in the ground. Guys like Marbury would have to pay the league to be allowed to wear a uniform or else they would be washing cars. Now, obviously this all can't happen, but yeah, the LEAGUE needs to address these issues. In the meantime, as a Spurs fan and season ticket holder, I'd be thoroughly outraged if Popovich didn't take advantage of opponents' weaknesses in any way that is legal. If the league wants to send a message, the officials for tonight's game should be sent a memo with the following message attached:

"Let them play tonight. If you even have a remote reason to believe a player is flopping, DON'T CALL IT. Set the tone right away and make sure to keep the same tone throughout the game. No makeup calls, no one-sidedness, just a hard, physical game."

Really, that's all that it would take for the Spurs to either stop flopping or get beaten down because they're laying on the floor pretending like Jeff Gilooly just treated them like Nancy Kerrigan.
