I guess I don't understand. Half of the Dallas team will be on the bench or not even dressed to play or not even at the ballgame because of the trade. But, the Dallas line goes from -8 to -4? So Dallas will play better without all those players?

Someone please explain this to me.

Curious you are looking at the line from the other side...the Mavs were favored by 8 to start and now are only favored by 4. They took away 4 points that they spotted Portland in the beginning.
