I made a thread about this a few days ago. They already have an under the table deal for CP3. It's already done, I'm sure of it...

I couldn't find the thread (being groggy isn't helping), but CP probably is under "superstar" status and I doubt he'd take such a pay cut.

Maybe the other players they sign instead are or can be good enough, hence the question.

HMM.. good point... it will be hard to keep more talent from joining... due to the media hype regarding being a 'winner'.... they WILL get a killer PG at some point... star PGs WILL take huge pay cuts to get 3-4 rings...

I'm too lazy to search as well, but I posted comments from World Wide Wes saying 3 down, 1 more to go, in reference to CP3 going to Miami next year. Would he take a pay cut at the MLE? Sure if under the table, he made it up in endorsements and other means. Pat Riley is in negotiations with Lebron to sell his home in Miami. Who knows what type of discount Riley is giving Lebron? These guys are all underhanded...

James' company, LRMR, evidently plans to market players together in packages. Not just for financial contracts, but for ownership in the companies that they deal with.

                From CNN Money:

"He should be looking at multiyear deals with a vested interest," says Doug Shabelman, the president of Burns Entertainment & Sports Marketing. "He'll probably be in a position to take some ownership stakes." Shabelman added that if LRMR develops a stable of athletes, it could package them in deals for marketers. In other words, if you want LeBron, you gotta take the others.

This is evidently why they all took lesser contracts to get together. This gives them more leverage.
I don't know the legality of this. But it certainly isn't good for the NBA.
