    I got a Q for you!!!
I'm new here and just chanced upon this forum. I just started betting on NBA games lately (a month ago) but have been following the games religiously for the past few years now.

I've been betting on my local bookie but I want to set up an account for myself on the numerous sportsbooks advertised here. I hate giving up my cc info online since I knew somebody I knew got hit hard when he gave it up on a nondescript online betting book. Can I use PayPal as my account instead? And when you say 1 unit, how much exactly is 1 unit? I need to catch up quick on your bball talk here, but I usually good playing it by ear! lol

It's till early and some of the odds are not out yet but here are my inital picks for today, Sunday, 1/31/2010. I still have to do a thorough analysis on these games though, so don't take my word for it:

    Magic -5 and under

Although the Magic are 1-11 against the Pistons at Auburn Hills in their last 12 head to head, they are on a high right now, which they can carry on to this game. PLUS I wouldn't put my own money on the Pistons even if there was a gun in my head! I really like the Magic to cover (a 9 to me with 10 being max) while the under is a a 7 1/2 for me.

Thanks for those who bothered to read my thread and responded, and I really enjoyed your insights for each and every game. Ya'll doing a great job here!

I'm also leaning towards the UNDER on the Thunder/Warriors game which stands at 214 right now. The Thunder's defense can more than hold its own against Golden State's offense and the Warriors needs some serious home cooking for them to put a bunch of points on the board.

I give the UNDER an 8 with the Thunder covering the spread a 7.

      but what do I know...

Use 1 of the SBR recommended sportsbooks and I doubt you'll have troubles...

Don't think any of them use pay pal, but never tried that myself...
Should be secure enough, but nothing on the web is 100%

1 "Unit" can be any amount, set percentage of your starting bankroll, usually 1 to 5 percent, but that is up to you.
Used to manage money & show profit/loss in relation to bets won/lost
at least that's my take on units, maybe others have their own ideas ?

I don't doubt the Magic in that spot, GL

Mad props for the heads up Q!

Let's just say my lowest bet is $30, and my max total bet for me for the whole day is $500, what would be my equivalent of 1 unit? Do you divide your bankroll in units by 10? Or by the 100?

I usually put almost half of my bankroll for the day for the play I like most, then scatter the rest on the other plays that I like lesser. So my biggest play of the day will be my saving grace if it hits, and just lose a little bit on the juice on my straight bets, which isn't many. If I had a good day, I could easily quadruple my bankroll for that day...

A lot of books will not even accept credit cards from US players so you would have to use Western Union or something like that. 1 unit to most people is there minimum standard play which usually equals 3-5% of your bankroll. If your lowest bet is $30 then I would say that is one unit for you. The term is used so highrollers and small timers can be on the same page when describing their confidence in a play. If one guys says I bet $100 that might be a lot to him but to someone else that is their average play. You get the idea im sure. Welcom to SBR and good luck on your picks

Thnx for the heads up SKM!

I'm trying to show some confidence on my plays here with some little analysis on the side but I heard there are a lot of faders here lately! LOL

I'm not really big on how I've been doing since our main objective here is to make some serious coin while enjoying the games on the side, although I'm been doing well lately. Since this is the norm here, I'll try to keep track of my Ws and Ls and my picks!

Believe me, I would rather bet the over than the under, especially since a handful of OTs have screwed me from time to time, but I'm thinking and taking this game as an outsider with no vested interest other than to make a few coins, and your heart is peeping out of your sleeves when it comes to the Warriors bro, no offense...

The Thunder held the 3rd best offensive team in the league to 84 points in their last game. With or without Melo, the Nuggets is still a pretty decent scoring team, plus the Warriors, the 2nd best scoring team was held to 88 points by the same Thunder team, which to me, is even better now than when they previously met. The Warriors are also running out of warm bodies to sustain their running game offensively, it will catch up to them sooner rather than later.

Anyways, gl to you, your future picks and your favorite team!

I'm leaning towards the over on the Suns/Rockets game, I'm probably betting this one too, I WILL put a bet now before I go to sleep.

Here's my bets so far for today, Sunday, 1/31:

                        Magic - 4 units
                        Magic/Pistons under - 1 unit
                        Thunder - 2 units
                        Warriors/Thunder under - 2 units
                        Raptors/Pacers under - 1 unit
                        Suns/Rockets over - 2 units
