The Pistons have done their best to choke away this series, and we expect the noose to tighten even more tonight as the Bulls prevail at home, forcing a do-or-die Game 7.
The Pistons are on the verge of one of the biggest chokes in sports history, as they went from holding a commanding 3-0 series lead to having to win this contest on the road to avoid a seventh game.
We feel that the Bulls are up for this challenge again, so we now do indeed expect this series to go to a winner-take-all deciding game in Detroit. The Pistons have only themselves to blame for being in this predicament, as they have not come to play since being handed Game 3 by the Bulls in Chicago. While it was understandable that they would come out flat in Game 4 in the Windy City, Detroit’s abysmal performance at home with a chance to close out the series in Game 5 cannot be ignored. The Pistons’ normally suffocating defense did not guard anyone in that game, as the Bulls nearly reached 100 points in the first three quarters alone after shooting a scorching 72.2 percent from the floor in the first half.
We get the feeling that the Pistons felt they could flip the switch any time they wanted in this series, but they are finding out first hand that the Baby Bulls are an excellent young team that can no longer be underestimated. In fact, if the Bulls did not blow an 18-point third quarter lead in Game 3, they could very well be the ones looking to wrap up this series tonight. As it stands, that is still the only loss the Bulls have suffered to Detroit in four meetings in this building this year, with the three victories coming by an impressive average of +11.3 points per game. .
Chicago has been one of the best home teams in the NBA this year, sitting at 34-11 straight up and 26-18-1 against the spread here. That ATS success at home becomes virtually moot at this cheap price where a win should be good enough for a cover, and we look for the Bulls to reward their home fans again tonight with this crucial victory.
