Basketball Parlay of the Day - Sunday, 3/11/07
SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! Keep in mind guys that I WANT to win this thing myself, so you all better bring your "A" games to beat me!!

For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

Good Luck to All (but not too much...I need a new monitor!)

    Fine Print:

1 entry per household and IP address.

Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits

    Tie breakers:
Will be decided by win % of individual parlay legs. 2nd tiebreaker is based on additional daily parlays until one person breaks tie.

15 parlays must be made in the month.

All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

SBR will pick a DVI LCD monitor that is features on this page when winner is decided.

Kansas -6? Despite the close game these two recently played I feel they are light years apart overall. I have a hunch Texas doesn't surprise the Jayhawks in the first half by jumping out to a big lead. I think the youngsters from Texas run out of gas today as Kansas gradually imposes their will on them.

UNC -14? Call me Mr. Chalk today but UNC's depth will wear down the 'Pack while playing their 4th game in as many days. It doesn't hurt that everywhere I look folks are jumping on the NC State bandwagon (and deservedly so) but their great run ends abruptly today.

Texas +6.5 Kansas is the superior team with the superior coach but I am not confident that they can beat a good Texas team by more than 4. Texas should have beat them in Kansas and will keep it close with a decent chance to win outright on the neutral court.

Arkansas +9 Arkansas has all of the motivation for this game and Florida is very capable of an uninspired performance. By no means does Arkansas have an at-large bid wrapped up. IMO they must win to get it. This game should stay closer than 9 points.

Arkansas/Florida Under 137: Both of these defensive units have been playing at a high level all season, allowing identical shooting percentages of 40.5 percent with Florida surrendering just 61.7 points per game and Arkansas allowing 65.4. Furthermore the Arkansas defense has gotten better as the season has gone on, as the Razorbacks have held their last five opponents to a miniscule 36.6 percent shooting. Throw in the fact that both of these teams should have tired legs with all of these back-to-back tournament games, and we feel that they will have a difficult time exceeding 130 points in this contest.

Orlando Magic +8: The Rockets have not done a good job of protecting their home court this season, going a mediocre 21-10 straight up in this building. More importantly from a betting perspective, they are just 14-17 against the spread in these games while winning by an average of +7.3 point, a margin not quite good enough to cover this number. Now the Magic are 14-17 ATS on the road, but they are only losing those games by -4.4 points per contest, well within this number. While Houston may very well win this game on the court, we look for Orlando to stay close throughout and cover this rather inflated number.

NC State +15.5 They are on a great run and the confidence from that alone should be enough to keep this one closer than 15 points.

Dallas/LA Lakers u199.5 I just think this total is a bit too high given the circumstances. I estimate about 190 pts being scored here tonight.

The Buckeyes get the best of the Badgers today and prove that they deserve the #1 seed overall in the tournament... Without Butch downlow for the Badgers, good luck keeping Oden in check!

                Cavaliers -10.5
The Pacers absolutely suck lately... They will be w/out Jermaine O'Neal and Marquis Daniels again tonight, possibly Jamaal Tinsley again who was suspended for last nights game... The Pacers have no chance of keeping this one close tonight... Cavs win big!

Texas +7--- Though these last 2 games have been uninspired performances (with the exception of the 2nd half against Baylor), I look for Texas to come out strong and keep it close. Ultimately, Kansas wins this game 7 out of 10 times on a neutral court. Not worried, at all, about the "fresh legs" factor. I think Texas can win this game outright if 3 of the following 4 things happen:
                  1) Augustin gets hot from long range. Forces Kansas to expand its D just enough.
                  2) Get Kansas in foul trouble.
                  3) Rick Barnes comes down with a sudden case of the flu or unveils a new offensive scheme that actually incorporates ball movement and attempts to run plays for Durant,

EDIT: Crap, I wanted Arkansas as my other bet, and didn't get it in apparently, though I posted my play in about 15 other threads. I'll add my other pick, soon.

Warriors -1---Warriors playing much better ball lately. The Baron returns. Portland sucks.

Florida -8.5: Starting to heat up a the right time and is 10-1 ATS in the postseason last two years.

Kansas -7: Texas played them close last week, but will struggle today off two close wins.

                          Kansas -7, Ohio State -1

Kansas is NOT one dimensional like the Texas Durants.

Ohio State is the better team since B. Butch is out for a few more weeks. OSU is the better, healthier team.

I have a feeling kansas comes out flat today, Durant goes off for 30 to keep the longhorns close.

                            Ohio St. -1

Greg Oden dominates the paint as the buckeyes win handily today.

Kansas is NOT one dimensional like the Texas Durants.

Ohio State is the better team since B. Butch is out for a few more weeks. OSU is the better, healthier team.
Dumbest statement I've read on this board that wasn't posted by Flamerz... Were you aware that UT also has arguably the best Freshman FG in the nation in Augustin (projected to be a lottery pick if he goes out)? Were you aware of a player, A.J. Abrams, who shoots lights out and has been their savior at certain parts of games. How about Mason and James, 2 KEY cogs in this team? Never heard of them either, huh? I realize you were trying to make a point, but it didn;t come out sounding like you thought it would. Yes, Durant is their key player, but there are 4 other solid starters and your argument is flawed.

Detroit Pistons -3: Good road team turning it around after playing mediocre ball post the all star break, look for a 7 or 8 point victory here.

Golden State Warriors -1: Too much talent, nearly outmatch the Blazers at every position...14 point victory in their first meeting (pre-trade, and without Davis).

I don't think Texas is one-dimensional at all. Sure, Augustin is fantastic, but I don't think he's a one man team. Durant and Abrams are pretty good players as well, and the forwards have been pretty impressive. Kansas is the best team in the country right now - along with Georgetown - but I have to respect Texas's raw talent and hope that Barnes doesn't get in his team's way here.

I think the better defensive team wins the championship game. Ohio State is a decent team, but nowhere near deserving of the acclaim they are receiving. This is a team that I do not think will be around for the second weekend of the tournament, and they go down in flames today against Tucker and company.

Texas +7 - Texas should keep this one relatively close and should be in it at the end.

Washington/Miami under 197.5 - Miami should continue to employ their methodical style here and Washington probably won't have the stamina to force the pace to get over this total.

Your entry does not count because of no analysis. You still have time to add a later game to go with Golden State and submit analysis for each.
