Today is Day 43, or Week 7, Day 1 of the NBA season.
Notes: Western Conference dominance?
All I heard during the offseason from the talking heads on television was how dominant the Western Conference was going to be this season over the Eastern Conference. They said all of best players moved were signing or traded to the Western Conference. Paul George and Carmelo Anthony were traded from teams in the East and landed at Oklahoma City in the West. Jimmy Butler was traded from Chicago in the East to Minnesota in the West.
I remember seeing a chart, I think on ESPN, showing 11 of the top 12 best players in the league residing in the Western Conference. Only King James from the East made that list. Giannis Antetokounmpo and John Wall were on the outside, looking in at this list.
So it must be surprising to those talking heads that after last Tuesday’s action, the Eastern Conference had 7 more wins than the Western Conference on the season. Now the West has 6 more wins than the East since then, so the margin has been cut a one-win advantage for the East.
Be that as it may, for what it is worth, 7 of the top 8 ATS teams in the league are from the East and 5 of those 7 teams are from the Atlantic Division. Boston is #1, Philadelphia #2, Brooklyn #4, New York #6 and Toronto #8.
Maybe the tide is turning now and the West will dominate the East the rest of the season. But for now, the East has more than held their own against the West to this point.
I do have my eye on one game for sure, no line posted, or there may have been a bet now, so I suspect I will have at least one play as I see at least one other possibility on the 5-game board, too.
