Lost their last 3 games by a close score.

Yup....it was so obvious Jazz, Rockets, or Warriors would gift Lakers a spot. Utah looks the most likely candidate.

Lakers just have to roll through the season as they've been doing - keep losing to tough/playoff teams, and just make sure to beat the shitty teams and they're in.

As a neutral (or Mavs fan I guess, which now qualifies as neutral), I am thrilled to see the Lakers making the playoffs instead of the Jazz.

Seriously, who wants to the the Jazz get swept by the Spurs or Thunder and barely compete in 1 game, getting blown out in the 3 others?

I'm not saying the Lakers would beat the Spurs or Thunder but it definitely would be a more intriguing series. Even if it only goes 4 or 5 games.

I think everyone, even Laker haters, want to see LA in the playoffs.

Its clearly gonna be one of the most interesting first round match-ups we've had in years and it should be a thrill. And on top, atleast we get to see what all this 'talent' LA has can do in a playoff series.

Even if they get there, I will say the series end in at most 5 games. Of course, I won't be surprised to see them being swept.

              Exactly my thoughts.

I think it would go at least 5 games (not that I'm exactly going out on a limb, Lakers will be +150 at most at home, more realisticlaly +120 so winning 1 of 2 there isn't exactly asking for the moon), maybe more. Should be fun.

They certainly can defend but they only do it when they are down big. In the last 3 games, they were down big and they started to defend. In the Thunder game, they cut it to 5 in the 4th quarter before losing. And the last 2 games against the poorer teams, they won because they step up their defence late in game.

If they are going to do this against the likes of Spurs or even the Grizz, they won't have any chance of comeback.

I agree man. I love Kobe but sometimes when he turns the ball over instead of running back on D, he whines which leads to automatic points.. I just hope they play 48 mins of defense. Not only for 5 mins late in the 4th when they are down and catching up..

Only reason they couldn't do that is

                        a) Not gonna get past OKC
                        b) Can't beat Miami even if they did make it to Finals

Because i seriously believe IF, only IF this team can start playing consistent defense, they are certainly capable of beating the other playoff teams. But they still haven't shown us that they can play at that level - so it's still a stretch to say they will beat any of the playoff teams.

I agree that they don't play defense, its so frustrating to see teams below .500 can shoot lights out against the Lakers. They get all these easy dunks and layup on the other hand Kobe have to do all these crazy moves to get buckets.

I have always loved cheering for underdogs, but in the NBA you rarely see a bottle seed win it all. They are in the bottle seed for a reason. It would definitely be a great story if Kobe can pull it off.

the problem tonight is they have yet to go inside. How can you be an inside team and try to shoot 50 jumpers?

It just seems they have on interest in making the playoffs...Rockets lose to Suns? Really? Warriors lose at home to the Bucks. These should be must-win/playoff games for these teams and they continue to show u why they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

Warriors seem like they are still in shock after Rockets bombing all their 3s on them in the 1st meeting. They look like they lost all their confidence.

Jazz dropped out of the playoffs spot for now. And Mavs is also slowly closing the gap. Imagine if Warriors/Jazz drop out and Lakers/Mavs making it.

This team is poorly managed. They screwed up once they decided not to trade Milsap or Jefferson. Both are FA's at the end of the year, and it is a given that at most one will return next year. Might as well get something in return. They badly need a PG, and they already have a log jam in the frontcourt.
