Unwilling to meet Phil Jackson's demands, the Lakers instead hired Mike D'Antoni as their next coach.

Wait, this may not be such a bad thing. Hear me out. As someone who follows the Lakers, of course a championship is nice. However, this team will be exciting and make it deep into the playoffs with Mike D. All I care about is seeing an exciting brand of basketball again on the court. It does hurt not getting Phil but I'm content with Mike D.

I think it can work. Mike D never had this much talent and took the Suns deep. He's back with Nash and Kobe loves him. Add Gasol and Dwight and we might have the best offense we've seen in recent years. On the defensive end, Dwight will be the anchor. It's crazy but I think this can workout for the Lakers.

This will be interesting. I think D'Antoni will work in LA, but he may have to adapt to the roster. D'Antoni has always coached uptempo teams without post players. Lakers roster is full of post players, curious to see how he handles the offense.

I think Mike D will be fine. Would've been great if the Lakers kept Mike Brown as the defensive coordinator. He should do it pro bono with all the money the Lakers still owe him. Mike D is one of the greatest offensive minds in the game. He will find a way for this team to be efficient even with the bigs. He took a much of misfits plus Nash in Phoenix and dominated, imagine what he'll be able to conjure up with the Lakers squad.
You realize that Phil didn't want to travel on road games right? LMAO

Not from LA. But a die hard Laker fan.
Bummer. Was expecting Phil too. Hope Lakers do well on the defensive end.

It will work. If us Lakers fans didnt know Phil was an option we'd be stoked. D'Antoni's style will better suit Nash and Howard.

phil is a ************. Look at the deal that he wanted. Not traveling to road games and deciding who to trade for? Like who the penetrate does he think he is? Jeah he had MJ and Shaq winning him a couple rings... no reason to act like david Stern or something.

To be honest the one thing about his demands i loved was that he wanted final say on all basketball decisions. With Jim Buss calling the shots I would have LOVED that

Phil wanted too much and thought he had the Lakers in the palm of his hand.
Good for the Lakers for not hiring his ass.

I love Phil, but when I heard that he wanted this, I knew he didn't want to be bothered unless they gave crazy value.

Slowly beginning to accept this. I still hate Jim Buss. But maybe this will work... Maybe D'Antoni bringing in Nate McMillan will help solidify things on the defensive end.

D'antoni will be better for the horrible depth this team has...Phil would just ruin his legacy with the worthless pieces of shit that reside on the Lakers bench
