    Tofudog's Vegan Platter
Hey everyone. Here goes another thread tracking some random persons picks. Obviously if I do badly I will stop posting and this will drop into the black hole of dead-end threads where it belongs. I will not continue to post stuff like 4-20= -30u

After 2 losing years of betting I have almost made back all of my money in the past six months (and without any big bets). Between gut feelings, tracking successful handicappers, and money management, I have slowly worked my way back.

Basketball is hands-down my favorite sport to watch and my favorite hobby. I love being the white guy who is picked last and ends up being the best player or one of the best players on the court. I have been deemed someone with "A high basketball IQ" and I feel I understand the NBA more thoroughly than the average bettor. After a successful season in MLB and NFL (so far..), I'm hoping I can apply my discipline to the sport that I know best. By no means, however, am I trying to be cocky or assuring that I will have a successful season. My only goal is to help if I can. Here is my style:

-I am 100% a recreational bettor. 50% of what makes it recreational to me is trying to find an edge
-I usually bet on a lot of games (I'm aware that this doesn't work for all people). A night for me can look like 5-2 or 2-5
-Don't over think it.. stick with your gut feeling
-I won't do many write-ups (not that you will care unless I'm successful). I spend enough time watching the games...
-If a line is too good to be true... it is
-Never underestimate an underdog at home
-Underdogs usually have a little extra value on prime-time TV
-I avoid 10+ pt. spreads. Take extra caution especially with coaches like Doc Rivers or Gregg Popovich
-95% of my plays are 1u
-I have a horrible "big play" ratio
-I am very streaky. I have had a 14-loss streak followed by a 15-win streak once before
-I love halftime bets. The first half gives so much insight into how the second half will play out. If you want to bet on the team that is winning, wait until the end of halftime to place your bet as the "chasers" will make your odds much better. If you want to bet on the losing team, place your bet the second the bet is available
-I have a "semi-chase" style. I aim for a winning night and a winning week. The thought of "house money" encourages bad bets but at the same time I like to give myself the chance to be up for the night

I'm a little drunk but it was fun making this write-up. I hope I can help everyone with their NBA picks.. good luck

I will do some write-ups for these...
              My future bets:
Phoenix Suns Over 32 Regular Season Wins: 5u
-Phoenix is my favorite team (now without my favorite player) but I also feel like their roster is so much stronger than last years. Nash missed so many games due to injury, before Gortat was traded to the suns they didn't even have a legitimate center and they often put Channing Frye at center or power forward which was a joke (he can't even rebound). They still ended the season at .500. They managed to acquire the two most underrated players in the NBA (Beasley and Scola). Look for Beasley to almost double his 11.5 PPG avg into a break-out year and become the Suns go-to player. Dragic came up under Nash and his previous stint in Phoenix will be helpful in acclimating the new players to the system. Jared Dudley can also move from SF to SG where he will be more effective. He is a career 41% 3pt shooter. The defense is questionable and the western conference always is tough but I see them at least being .400

Philadelphia Under 45.5 Regular Season Wins: 3.5u
-Philadelphia had a break out season last year. With Bynum's injury concerns,(probably not even starting the first game) it would not surprise me if he misses 20+ games. Kwame Brown is a non-factor offensively and Spencer Hawes is so much more of a 4 than a 5 that games without Bynum will be a struggle. Also while they have a threat at center, they shipped away quite a few good perimeter shooters. Nick Young is an adequate replacement but with a starting 5 of only decent players, I feel this team is only an injury away from not making the playoffs. They also only kept 5 players from last year on their roster.

Indiana Pacers Over 51 Regular Season Wins: 3u
-This is my least confident bet but I still like it better than taking the Bulls over. While I believe you need superstars to win in the post-season, I don't feel its that way with the regular season. Not much to say here except for a winning battle with the Rose-less Bulls for the #2 spot and an eastern conference with completely switched teams.

Slightly disappointed that neither of my original two favorite picks (wash over and boston +6) worked out... Aiming for a winning night here:

                      -Adding 2nd Half Dallas/L.A.L Under 93.5

                        YTD= 2-4= -1.4u

Well the difference between a winning night and a losing night is a completely unnecessary foul by the lakers with 10 secs, a gift of a missed free throw, but then a dagger in a Pau Gasol 3 to kill my 2nd half under. Just a sobering reminder of how basketball can go.

                        10/31:
-Indiana Pacers -1.5 (Not ready to buy Raptors hype yet.. No Granger but I think they get the job done)
-Detroit Pistons -2.5 (Up an coming team. Ill take a game plan vs. "just give harden the ball")
-San Antonio Spurs -6.5 (Hornets looked good in preseason against Miami but I feel Timmy D and the Spurs bring Anthony Davis and his squad back down to earth. No Manu in this game)
                        -Spurs-Spurs Double Result -165
-Sacramento Kings +6.5 (I believe in this team a bit. Last Bulls game I saw, they almost lost to OKC without Westbrook or Durant and Harden went 2-15 shooting)
                        -Sacramento/Chicago Under 188.5

Interesting.. Ibaka is just walking around. They obviously aren't running plays for him. I think hes trying to keep Duncan as far from the paint as possible but it also seems like he isn't trying too much.. Hope the second half works better.

                                YTD= 7-8= -1.7u

Was hoping to get off to a better start but obviously early season can be somewhat of a crapshoot. I like a whole lot of plays today but resisted the temptation to play them all

-Miami Heat -6: Call it a square play if you believe those terms. The additions of Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen seemed to be completely legitimate in their season opener. The Knicks are without Amare obviously, and have a banged up Tyson Chandler, JR Smith, and Marcus Camby. They played all of their preseason games on the road due to MSG renovations so this will be the first time they are back in the building in a while. On top of that they had been preparing to face the Nets for their opener and all of a sudden have to face a much different and more difficult team.

-Denver Nuggets -6: The overhyped Nuggets lost to the 76ers in the opener and are not looking to go 0-2. If Orlando's roster isn't bad enough already they have key injuries to their bench. Al Harrington who is probably the go-to guy on the bench behind Glen Davis is out. They waived Quentin Richardson, so Hedo is the only half decent person for them at SF, and Aaron Afflalo is coming off an injury. Finally a new rookie coach and I think it all adds up to a 10+ pt win for the Nuggets.

-Milwaukee/Boston Under 195: Celtics have been focusing on defense after giving up the most points in a season opener since 1994. Paul Pierce said "we might as well have just sat on the bench and watched them run up and down the court." I'm a little concerned about Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings speed in the back court but I think this is a solid bet.

                                -Detroit/Phoenix Over 193:
Both the Pistons and the Suns shot horribly in their season openers. The Suns still can't play defense, and the GSW were the only reason the GSW only scored 87 pts. The Suns shot a dismal 9-38 from the 3-point line and I expect that to improve.

                                Still more to come though
