Hey everyone. Here goes another thread tracking some random persons picks. Obviously if I do badly I will stop posting and this will drop into the black hole of dead-end threads where it belongs. I will not continue to post stuff like 4-20= -30u
After 2 losing years of betting I have almost made back all of my money in the past six months (and without any big bets). Between gut feelings, tracking successful handicappers, and money management, I have slowly worked my way back.
Basketball is hands-down my favorite sport to watch and my favorite hobby. I love being the white guy who is picked last and ends up being the best player or one of the best players on the court. I have been deemed someone with "A high basketball IQ" and I feel I understand the NBA more thoroughly than the average bettor. After a successful season in MLB and NFL (so far..), I'm hoping I can apply my discipline to the sport that I know best. By no means, however, am I trying to be cocky or assuring that I will have a successful season. My only goal is to help if I can. Here is my style:
-I am 100% a recreational bettor. 50% of what makes it recreational to me is trying to find an edge
-I usually bet on a lot of games (I'm aware that this doesn't work for all people). A night for me can look like 5-2 or 2-5
-Don't over think it.. stick with your gut feeling
-I won't do many write-ups (not that you will care unless I'm successful). I spend enough time watching the games...
-If a line is too good to be true... it is
-Never underestimate an underdog at home
-Underdogs usually have a little extra value on prime-time TV
-I avoid 10+ pt. spreads. Take extra caution especially with coaches like Doc Rivers or Gregg Popovich
-95% of my plays are 1u
-I have a horrible "big play" ratio
-I am very streaky. I have had a 14-loss streak followed by a 15-win streak once before
-I love halftime bets. The first half gives so much insight into how the second half will play out. If you want to bet on the team that is winning, wait until the end of halftime to place your bet as the "chasers" will make your odds much better. If you want to bet on the losing team, place your bet the second the bet is available
-I have a "semi-chase" style. I aim for a winning night and a winning week. The thought of "house money" encourages bad bets but at the same time I like to give myself the chance to be up for the night
I'm a little drunk but it was fun making this write-up. I hope I can help everyone with their NBA picks.. good luck
