KANSAS-5mike5 Memorial Race Thread

I guess most regulars know 5mike5 has been banned. Apparently several people reported him for talking about his website, including one joker who complained because he had been banned for promoting.

Have only got one short email from Mike so far so not sure what he thinks or how long they said it is for. I emailed SBR asking if they might change their mind for the good of our forum here but the reply didn't make it sound promising.

I dunno what's going to happen to our weekly thread without Mike to lead it. I've never run across anyone else that could maintain such enthusiasm week after week and keep this place hopping.

But for this week at least I will try and start a poor imitation of a 5mike5 thread for us and cross fingers SBR does have a change of heart before next week.



Alright folks, we are of to Kansas for some Truck racing on Friday night and Cup Saturday night. Then to cap off the weekend we have the standalone Nationwide race from Iowa on Sunday.

Banking in Turns...variable (17-20 degrees); previous banking: 15 degrees
Banking on Frontstretch... 10 degrees; previous banking: 10.4 degrees

From 2009-2013 a typical Kansas race had 18.6 lead changes, 7.8 cautions for 36.1 laps, and an average green-flag run of 26.5 laps.

The Pole winner has won 4 times in 16 races. (both 2013 races. 2 of 3 since re-configuration)
A top 5 starter has won 8 times in 16 races.

Think Kenseth is my main man this week. He has won 2 of the 3 here since reconfig plus a Nationwide race.

Leaning Bowyer and Biffle a little.

I have came here and lurked all year and he's put me up over 1800 between online and our weekly race pool you come to these sites for good handicaping and advice and noone puts in more work and study on his craft than mike5.

start a petition or something to get this guy back ill be the first to sign it

I asked someone to give me a straight answer about what could be done and they did. Would not feel right about saying thanks I understand then starting a thread demanding they change their mind. But I'll show my support if someone else makes a thread. Trouble with those threads in my experience is that they usually hurt more than help. And don't kid yourself it will be all nice and rosey. People will come out of the woodwork to attack him as well.

The most likely way to work is to email them and ask nicely first. But he hasn't even said if he wants to get back in or plans to ask yet. Not to me at least.

If they let him back it will be with a promise not to mention his site. Best bet right now is to tow the SBR line with that I think. ;-)

I forgot it was a first night race. That throws a small spanner into relying too heavily on past stats I guess.

Kennseth,Busch,and Hamlin are back to being throwouts this week unless i see something in practice just seems like they have 6th through 10th place cars on these type of tracks this year besides the race kyle stole they have been alright on short run but car goes away after a few laps.

McMurry was really fast here last year so that makes me think that Larson will have a good package.

I will hold my statement on Kennseth because this is definitly one of his best tracks but i honestly believe with all the engine trouble they had last year there still not fully cranked

I've been a doubter too bigger. And not been 100% sure what it is. Seemed like the team lost something this year thogh. Personally think they have shown they are fine last 2 races though. Not sure if they are back to as good as they could be, but not badly enough off their game to fade either imho. I guess you could be right that its mostly a 1.5 mile issue.

new tire package this week. last year on the multi tread no one could pass. id say you gotta start up front....brad on joey have been steller at that so far this year. gordon has been fast but on th elong runs (and hes not passing as easy here with one groove).

I think you are spot on with the tires Vinny. Only a few guys like Joey have been consistent on the multi thread compound as well. Logano actually won at Richmond with their first run on the multi tread tires. I could be wrong but I am going off memory and cannot check right now. The tire compunds is something I look at a lot with my qualifying bets.

That really sucks about 5mike5 being banned. I know he's brought a lot of people to SBR. I have several friends who began reading his threads regularly after I told them about him.

I'm leaving for Kansas in the morning and will be there the rest of the week. It's looking like a good chance of rain on Thursday, but Friday and Saturday look promising.

The first thing that comes to mind at Kansas is how terrible Kyle Busch has been there. Two years ago he crashed three times in one weekend and crashed again last year. He hates the place.
