#7808was going back a few generations on a horse's pedigree (forget who) and the 3rd or 4th dam sire was roberto
thinking of all the interesting things with him
top flight runner europe
same year (1969) and sire (hail to reason) as halo who was a very solid runner and sire himself .. remember you said you beat halo at mth ! also halo is the sire of sunday silence (famous battles with easy goer in triple crown races and the greatest japanese sire of all time)
roberto is the sire of two "major" stallions in kris s and dynaformer (and sure at least a few others) who both could get top runners on either surface ..distance influences
interesting he was a 3yo the year roberto clemente died in a plane crash (1972)..guess it's possible he was named after him (obviously too soon for the crash) as he was an all time great and it was late in his career .. if so they certainly got it right
I think after the 3 major influences ( mr prospector, northern dancer and bold ruler) that hail to reason might be the 4th .. mainly with the two stallions mentioned above (roberto and halo) and especially considering what sunday silence (halo) did in japanComment -

#7809about the time I was just getting into baseball (born 1963) so don't remember him as a player..just that he was an all time great and had no weaknesses. you being a little older probably got to see him in his prime especially if you were a pirates fan ..guess one way or the other there was going to be some discomfort in the winterComment -

believe it or not I forget the horse lol but not one of the 3 we follow..not sure how much it would've affected my decision whether to follow him or not but every once in a while will look past 2nd dams in the female family
just out of curiosity..was aware there was some pedigree significance with roberto but forgot what it was ..it is kind of amazing (and tragic) that he died the same year the horse was in his primeComment -

#7815Visceral Entry Update

Visceral is officially in for next Thursday at Del Mar. He’ll be the #2 among a field of eight carded as the day’s fourth race. Post time is 3:30 p.m. PT.
We’ll follow up with a closer look at the competition in the coming days, but at a glance it looks like a well-matched group that Visceral certainly fits with. Note that he also qualifies for the maiden dirt bonus which bumps the purse up to $90K.

#7827Straight No Chaser had his final breeze this morning over the Seaside oval receiving an official time of 1:01.60. Trainer Dan Blacker had him in :59 flat galloping out in 1:10.80. There were quite a few workers early this morning so perhaps the clockers missed him or were on the wrong horse but nonetheless, Blacker was thrilled with this final drill.Straight No Chaser Workout Reporthttps://cdnb-media.myracehorse.com/b...1500739580.mp4
He breezed under Juan Landeros and traveled solo for the first half of the work before catching company in the turn and stretch. He cooled out in great order after the work and all systems are a go for next Saturday. Click here for the Bing Crosby nominations.
Funny how the trainer always have them going quicker!

Real Savvy breezed a half mile in :49.16 this morning over the Saratoga main track. Your son of Authentic worked (inside) in company with Escapades, breezing head and head to the wire and proved best on the gallop out.
As we reported in yesterday’s update, we are going to consider entering Real Savvy for a NY-bred maiden special weight on August 1st as a main track only entrant.
Assistant trainer Miguel Clement provided a quick update which can be seen above in addition to the work.

New Auction Items AddedThe MyRacehorse Transition Fund is off to a healthy start after the final gavel fell in our inaugural Retail with a Purpose Auction last week! We have raised a very generous $10,421 that will go directly toward easing the well-deserved transitions our equine athletes deserve upon the conclusion of their racing careers.

#7831their take.... still waiting to see where I'm headed
Visceral Race Overview Visceral stretches out to a mile and sheds his extension blinker as he makes his second start at Del Mar on Thursday. It’s no secret that we had high hopes for the grey heading into his debut, and he definitely showed some run while finding a bit of traffic trouble. Many signs point to a step forward in this second go, and if that happens, his competition may very well be in trouble.
Trainer Mark Glatt is 16% over the past five years with firsters, and 19% with second-time maidens. When you filter that second group for only horses going sprint to route on the dirt, he’s three-for-seven over the past five years with two more seconds.
Just one horse from Visceral’s debut race has run back thus far—stablemate Santarena, who was second last out, was third Saturday in another sprint.
See below for a closer look at the competition. Click here for past performances. Good luck!
#1 Abitmischievous - $310K 2yo buy by Into Mischief improved second out going turf to dirt sprint. Two full siblings won routing, and a half-sister was GSP going two turns on the dirt. Barn is 13% with maidens stretching out. Logical contender.
#3 Mongolian Gold - Narrow third in a Los Al sprint that was won by a pricey Baffert firster but which came back slow on figures. Runner-up upended a sprint MSW on Saturday at huge odds, so that race may have been stronger than the figures suggest. 4yo and $25K purchase is a bit exposed. Likely up against it despite the last race angle.
#4 Canada Gate - Well-bred Juddmonte homebred finished second beaten nine lengths, and directly in front of two returning rivals, when stretching out at Santa Anita last time. The winner that day, Pony Express, is being considered for the Jim Dandy. Not sure he’s a superstar by any means, but he could take this.
#5 Captain Choochies - Winless in 13 tries, though he was DQ’d once from a win. 4yo was second last time against softer company, and actually owns the best last-out Beyer Speed Figure of 77, but doubt he classes up with the best of these.
#6 Winterfell - If not for his fourth-place run (beaten almost 19) in that Pony Express race, he’d be a pretty big favorite here, as his efforts two and three back were much faster than anything anyone else has run yet. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him bounce back, but couldn’t fully trust him.
#7 Battle Cruiser - Relatively pricey son of Catalina Cruiser ($300K) was second when risked for a $62.5K tag back in May. The form of that race has not held up particularly well. Gets a weight break, but others have much more appeal.
#8 Indispensable - Battle Cruiser’s stablemate and looks like the preferred runner of the two based on jockey assignments. $825K son of Constitution was third behind stablemate Pony Express last out and beaten only a nose by Canada Gate. Has been on the board in six of eight tries, but it’s fair to say he’s already had his chances.Comment -

With the 10 presumably out near the front early, he will have a fair outside run it looks like on paper.
A few firsters in there besides him that have indications of talent.
Obvious is the 1, 3, 7.
More subtle , the 5.
Even the 6 a little, with that hard bump, but Prat got off him to ride the 7.
Cool race.Comment -

Didn't see the prices but that 5 horse was a hidden gem. Rosario up on that firster from a non descript trainer with some very impressive works in between maintenance stuff caught my eye. Ran very well at a nice price.
