Sportsbook Review Forum
One aspect That STR brought up and I enjoy sharing is the "backside' of racing ..hope the video goes through!
( and yes I bought a share)
Phase Two of the Breaking Process
Enjoy this video of Stylishly ’23 going through phase two of the breaking process, which incorporates “the roller,” which replicates a saddle. As you will see in the video above, he is doing a lot of the same things he did in stage one, but with the addition of that pressure from the roller.
Phase One of the Breaking Process Phase one of the breaking process has begun for your Not This Time colt at Wavertree Stables. Farm trainer Ciaran Dunne takes us through this step, when horses learn how to turn in their stall and listen to the commands being given to them. They will do this for about four or five days before a roller (girth) is added, which mimics a saddle.
Stylishly ’23 was a bit leery in the beginning (not at all uncommon), but started to pick things up as time went on. He will begin to get more comfortable after each phase of the process. We will be back with stage two in the coming days.
couldn't get the video to work ugh...

So just to be up front I bought a share for 127.00 I have seen 520 dollars returned to me not counting the expected 450 stated above.
There are still performance bonuses on the table, Earnings on Races, and a small percentage of stud fees.
STG is by far the best performer...
Straight no Chaser is about 1/3 of return
One fast Dream was about 2/3 return
Show your cards was about 4/5 return ( Insurance) as he was cast in his stall and ended up in horse heaven.
The rest of the horses I have had are not even close.... But as the old saying goes..... Sharing time with my dad and mom( they live in a different town) watching the horses is Awesome! Winning the "Preakness" Priceless!! Not that I discount any other race or horse I have had the luck to win with! and share a winning moment with my dad especially!!
so this one probably puts you in the black overall doing this and understand there's still potential earnings ahead..so when MR has a horse that is good enough to become a stallion do they sell all of it to a farm or keep a percentage for themselves and get some residuals for the shareholders
because I would think even modest stallion fees (say 25-50k) over a period of time can on avg add up to easily 5-10x what a horse earned on the track .. that would amount to a big part of the return of having an interest in the horse .. if it's too long or complicated to explain I understand if you pass on it or give me a brief general explanation
it's great you're able to share the experience with your parents..something really nice besides the investment part

Now that you have seen it, watch again and only look at the horses eyes and ears. They are working in conjunction with each other. You can see the thought process as it is working. That is fascinating to watch.
When you are there everyday, you take that stuff for granted. I used to love watching that stuff. I learned so much by just watching them.
I had to spend the entire night with a horse about 6 months before I started training as he was in bad shape with colic. It was winter so both doors were closed and it was just him and me for about 10 hours. Jeez, I learned a lot. And the unraced 2 year old at the time, Blue Wiz Kid, was who taught me.
When you watch it the first time you will see stuff. Watch it again and you will see more. The eyes show it, and you can start to read those eyes, and the ears respond a fraction of a second later. So cool to see.
BTW, this horse is smart as can be IMO. Time will tell if I am right, as the horse starts training.
Appreciate it Batt.

Seems the horse is learning with every start. Probably same goes for the 7 pound apprentice jockey.
In today's world, a lot of activity. Back in the day... more typical than not.

Another in my seemingly endless quests to understand horse racing.
Parx R9 41K (Why?)Allowance #1 Drum Roll Please. Off 9 months. Last seen with the likes of Dornoch/Sierra Leone circa 250K races. 1st time Lasix (Why?). ML 6/5 (Why?).
Don't need a big long eval, just a brief summary.
Thanks

Parx R9 41K (Why?) Think they are looking for a soft spot to get started back. Make it easy on the horse to get into his best shape. It's not always the purse as much as it is getting the horse from where he is to where they hope he can eventually go. Winning always helps with that.
(1st time lasix. Why?) Why not. He is most likely bleeding albeit just a small amount but that is something you must control to have any chance to compete. He breezed 13 days after his last race. Maybe he bled in that workout. I don't know. No reason not to have him on lasix at this point in my opinion.
ML 6/5 (Why?). He looks superior off his past races. Have to think he has trained to run this distance coming into today.
Hope that makes sense.

I will attempt to give it a go! This issue has arised with 3 horses I know of.
so this one probably puts you in the black overall doing this and understand there's still potential earnings ahead..so when MR has a horse that is good enough to become a stallion do they sell all of it to a farm or keep a percentage for themselves and get some residuals for the shareholders As far as my knowledge goes "Authentic" was the only true Horse being offered as a "stallion "prospect... MRH was never in from the beginning with him , But was offered pre kentucky Derby with a potential to be a"stallion Deal"
When the horses are offered they are never listed as a potential "stallion" as MRH is about the racing experience. Forbidden Kingdom(grade 2 winner) was sold at a sale as a racing or stallion prospect and legacy ranch bought him. It was never mentioned to sell the breeding rights as far as I know.(I didn't have a share in him so I don't know all the details ) https://ctba.com/legacys-plan-for-forbidden-kingdom/
When STG won the Pat Day mile and the Preakness horse farms began reaching out to MRH about having a "Stud"deal because of the Arrogate lineage. The negotiations began... from selling him out right at the time... to letting him race.... and who knows what else.I think MRH looked at this as a way to give the "shareholders a brand new way of looking at the overall horseracing/ownership experience.
Gainsway offered the "best deal" in terms of racing and selling breeding rights according to MRH... 90 percent of his breeding rights were sold and we kept the racing winnings plus any performance bonuses. So it kinda fell into our lap....
wisconsin gal (army mule) is entered in R1 @ churchill on thursday..a restricted msw race like the last one ..that's back in 11 days and her race prior to that was 22 days ago (11 between each)..lot of activity in a short amount of time..this is the one who ran 2nd in her last 2 races
I found it interesting that 2"Army Mules " yearlings were sold yesterday in California at the Yearling sale and brought decent prices in the California market. I don't remember seeing that before. both cal breds.
This is so special. You said it right. PRICELESS !
That's great Batt.

I truly enjoyed my "limited" time with the horses as we prepped them for the horse sales.... you hit the nail on the head When you are there everyday, you take that stuff for granted. yes that establishes where they're bred .. seems to me from casual observation that there aren't a lot of cal breds by ky sires..part of that I'm sure has to be the distance between the states

Thanks for sharing. That must have been some experience to spend so much time with "Blue Wiz Kid"
That evening, I was just doing a job I did not want to ask anyone else to do. I felt responsible as the asst. trainer to see it through.
What I had no idea of was what I would learn from the experience. Hard to explain but here I am about five months prior to 50 years later and I still get goosebumps if I really dive back in to it in my head. Like now, as I type this. That's crazy.

I'm thinking that now that he has gotten peoples attention, the better mares are lining up. All the sudden, he is worth the trip to breed to.
And yes, it's the state where the are born. Bred is misleading. Probably no horse vans or planes when they came up with that term.

saw the pp's ..I think he's the "most consistent" top speed..that's important as he might have to outgun "for all mankind" going for the lead..6f ,dirt ,middle posts led to his 2 biggest efforts ..like him and be rooting for you
