Obviously he can't read a form, as he consistently puts horses in spots that they have no shot to win in these races.. He must not be able to read the little numbers in the form that tell you if your on a speed horse or a closer..
Does anyone know if Ramon Dominguez knows how to read..

#2I was taught by one of the best and he always stressed attention to detail.
Not only in the barn but in the paddock. He would point out the speed numbers and other jocks on the program to the rider and would have written down the instructions on the program as well. He would repeat the instructions 2,3 and sometimes 4 times to the jockey.None of this Hi how you doing crap.
I asked him one day why he constantly repeated the instructions over and over to the jocks .He said that they were going to have to remember them for more than 10 minutes and he never met one that could if you only said it once.
He was right!
Guess I won some races because the rider thought of the right thing to do during the race but I know I lost a ton of them because the rider thought period.
Very frustrating.
Not the rider in the avatar and not a few others that I knew but 95% of them for sure.Comment -

#3it is very frustrating to handicap a card, come up with a few horses, then watch as a horse you figured would be forwardly placed or on the lead, race 7 of 8 horses, 6 wide into both turns, into a 25 1/4 and a 49 and change half...Comment -

#4I would have wanted to kill if that had happened to me.
Two things to watch for.
Rider change next time and how quickly the horse comes back.
Also, does he ride regularly for the trainer?Horse could have warmed up funny and if he had no trust in the outfit, that could have come into play.
I feel your pain.Comment -

#5It was one of those races 1 1/16, where you knew in the 1st turn you had no shot, then you get false hope when he goes from 7th to 4th in 2 strides, then flattens out in the next stride at 2-1.. my guess is next time he'll wire the field at 5-1.. ill be watchingComment -

#7You guys are looking at the Classic New York Circuit.
I am not saying it is race fixing ( that is illegal) BUT they are definitely working their darnest to get purse $$ to the barns that need the $$ to get them thru this Winter meet.
For example: Finger Lakes trainer had three horses entered today (Thursday 12/30) at Aqueduct. ...All three horses won their race.. How WONDERFUL !!!!!!
Then again R D has not been riding for over a week....maybe he is scared (?) or just lost his competitive edge.Comment -

#8Englehart has been on fire at the A, but Dominguez gets knocked down to even money or less every horse he gets on. Its sorta ridiculousComment -

#12I'd take Garrett Gomez over anybody in a big race, with Bejarano second. Cornelio Velasquez is also a top rider who doesn't get the credit he deserves. I don't ever recall getting a bad ride from him.

#13they don't have the time to read drf before every mount. everything changes anyway when they leave the starting gate. all the best laid plans go awry if someone cuts you off trying to get the lead or the jock changes his mind at the last second or any number of things can happen at that precise moment. just throw out the chalk and keep betting and don't worry about it.Comment -

#17hes done it on 2 in a row here at aqueduct, speed horses who he dragged back and was OTB.. last one was a joke as he broke a length in front with a need the lead horses, grabbed him and drug him back to 6th 6 lengths off the lead.. never got closer than that..Comment -

#18Its strange..this thread has been on my mind the last few days so I focus on Dominguez more than usual (he usually rides the favorite anyway). Sometimes he looks like the best jockey in the country and other times he puts out a completely horrible ride...wonder where the lack of consistency comes from.Comment -

But,there is NO WAY I would have let 95% of the jockeys come up with a plan on how to ride my horses when I was training.
If I am spending every moment I possibly can thinking and worrying about my horses for 3-4 weeks, when it comes time for them to run, they are going to ride them (as long as things go to plan) the way I tell them to.Not the way they want to.Comment
