Question: When/Why did the Belmont go from 1.5 M to 1.25 M like the Derby?

it's a 1 1/8 mile track and I believe the race would have to start on the far turn ..think other tracks "might" do it on occasion but rare ..belmont the only place it can happen around 2 turns in this country
