#147"I don’t know what Lemon Drop Kid and El Prado average winning distances are. But what I do know from experience is that their offsprings are best at 1 mile and 1 1/4 on turf. Not as good for 1 1/16 and 1 1/8 "
would this be similar to a guy who could dunk a 9 foot basket and also an 11 ft basket but would struggle with the regulation 10 ft basket ? (assuming they had the oddball heights somewhere)Comment -

#149I understand your point Mr. G&T. 40 years of observation. Goes a long way. If it was just Luck who knows? Sometimes it's better to be Lucky than good.Comment -

#150No, but it would be similar to someone who can swim well in the 100m and 400m, but not necessarily good with 200m. It doesn’t mean they can’t do, but they just don’t perform as well. And like I said before, this is straightly from my personal observation and experiences. No numbers to back up. And it has work for me in the past. You can interpret it whatever way you like. And maybe it was just pure luck.
rude..i totally disagree with you and it hit a nerve with me
when I read it but shouldn't have come on that strong or at all..let's face even if I raised it in a civil manner it'd be an argument...up to youComment -

#151Like I said before, I have been around in this game for a long time. Everyone has his or her style of handicapping. There is no right or wrong way. It is very personal thing. You can agree or disagree and that is what a discussion/forum is for. I have learned to be humble a long time ago. It doesn’t bother me how you handicap or how well you do because at the end of the day, all I care is if I am making money. I’m still learning after all these years. I just hope as you move forward, you can accept other people’s opinions even if you don’t agree. Best of luck to you, JBEX, I’m very glad that you have such passion in this game. A lot people think this is a dying sport. I wish there are more people here where we can talk about horse racing. GL.Comment -

#158del mar
R2 #7 der lu (5-2)
probably no value here with this baffert fts but one of those @ $900k must be a total specimen.. the pedigree to is sprint oriented on the bottom with forestry as the dam sire.. the dam was only a winner (not stakes) and has 2 winners from 3 starters..this is the type of horse if I saw cost $150k I'd say potentially could be something but at above price must be babe ruth.. .no surprise who's training the babe lol
R5 #6 eskimo roses (5-2)
R8 #7 stirred (5-1) 2yo stakes
another of those very expensive ($150k) for the pedigree relatively speaking.. 5k stallion, unraced mare and this is her first foal to race.. broke maiden 1st time out and this is her 2nd start
R9 #10 johnny strong (12-1)
saratoga

the winner of the sorrento stakes (2yo) was an 800k auction purchase but here's the difference with der lu
in R2
der lu / bellafina
orb 25k / quality road 70k >>> sire
winner / stakes placed >>> dam
2 winners from 3 starters no stakes /
1 winner from 2 starters 1 stakes 240k (8-4-1-1) >>> progeny
$800k of course still a lot for bellafina but $900k for der lu is extremely high for his credentialsLast edited by JBEX; 08-05-18, 09:14 PM.Comment -

thanks mrgnt.. been a long while since I picked one at that price..not that it's something anybody does a lot but felt good..
I think it's going to be "miller time" in that race.. he's got two running and they both look good but the prices will be low.. there's 3 other maidens on that card so hopefully other opportunitiesComment -

like the bloodlines on lincoln city for turf.. i've got a big bias against horses who run vs msw and cost 30k at auction ...like to see at least a decent buck paid for the horse or home bred with nice pedigree.. the trainer is 2/100 with first time starters so that ends it right there for me
truck salesman has a lot more going for him.. cost $230k and is out of a new sire "can the man" who's fee is $3500 so that's big bucks.. some of that is explained by quality on the dam's side but not nearly enough to justify that money imo..the first race was very acceptable and one I like to see from a fts.. show speed to the pace call and still 2nd at the stretch call and finish mid pack.. downside is not sure about turf with that pedigree but with doug o'neil training and an expensive 2yo making his 2nd start not overly worried about that.. not bad overall but again we're looking at short oddsComment -
