Can't agree. They gave up 200 yards rushing against at D1AA Team (although they are a good D1AA Team)................Iowa should bounce back for the win...................by 7-10

Iowa will get 1 starting offensive lineman back this weekend (all b10 tackle Calloway) who was serving 1 game susp. and could get Vandervelde (Guard) back as well.. but in limited duty.

Last weekend vs UNI the center and guards were awful.

Iowa St has covered the spread 9 out of the last 10. The game has been close for the last decade with the only exception being in 05 when Iowa St won 23-3.
The Iowa St O-line has a huge size advantage over the Iowa D-line. In an interview with Iowa's linebacker Pat Angerer he says their defense isnt looking forward to facing Iowa States spread offense. The team really doesnt seem fired up to play after the horrible showing last weekend. Iowa has no playmakers at wideout. Moeaki is there main reciever and hes not that impressive. Hawkeyes O-line gave up 4 SACKS against Northern Iowa!!! Granted the Cyclones arent a powerhouse but they did put up 34 on a scrub team while the hawkeyes snuck away with a win after putting up on 17 on NORTHERN IOWA! This is a huge rivarly in the state of Iowa and jack trice stadium isnt the shoe or the swamp but its still gonna be a rowdy crowd.

Some thoughts on your post............

1. Your are spot on, Iowa State has performed extremely well against the Hawks for the simple reason they take this game more seriously than any on their schedule. If they approached every game this way, they would be a bowl team year in and year out.........but instead have produced one of the worst programs over the past 50 years in all of CFB(please check to see the last time they won a conference title).

2. Do not take Angerer's comments as being much. This is exactly what he is supposed to say and the senior all big ten performer said the right thing and did not want to say anything to motivate the Cyclones. Having said that, he is spot on, as the new look ISU offense will probably cause some leaks in the Iowa defense.

3. Iowa is just fine at wideout and have an array of above average recievers and Moeki IS impressive at the TE position. It's the Iowa running game that needs to find a better than "adaquate" replacement for departed Shonn Greene.

4. The O-LINE will play much better this week for Iowa as they are returning two studs, possible 1st-team all Big Ten RT Calloway and Vandervelde, antoher possible all-conference performer. This will enable the other lineman to go back to their normal positions as well, as 1-2 guards were playing tackle. When healthy, this should be a top 5-10 OL in the entire country, achored by LT Bulaga who is a sure fire 1st rounder right now as a junior.

5. Keep in mind, Northern Iowa is better than probably 35-40% of the current FBS teams(including Iowa State) and may win the FCS title this year with a little luck.........plus they played with great motivation in this game as it was their biggest game in years.

As much as I disagreed with most of your post, you were SPOT ON with the most important factor here, and that is the intensity and past history ISU brings to this game year in and year out......more so than the Hawkeyes..........and they are at home as you suggested.

I look for a war similar to the Northern Iowa game with more of an emphasis on the offenses.

I didnt say Moeki was a wideout but he IS there main RECIEVER. He had 10 receptions last game.... next person to him was mcnutt with 5 and i doubt northern iowa has shutdown corners so thats not the reason they didnt throw to the WIDEOUTS

Look for true freshman wideout Davis to see more looks this week........and also true freshman Mr. do everything five star recruit Wegher(bothered by minor ankle sprain). Alas, look for red-shirt freshman Brinson(1st or 2nd team RB) to possibly return this week also. This Iowa team is very young at a many key positions. McNutt, who you mentioned, is just a freshman also.

We can talk X's and O's, players and coaches, home field advantage, and soybean/corn prices..........but the overriding factor in this game is simply how ISU plays Iowa tough many more times than not, thus the only side one can take here is the ISU side.

I will not be playing the game, as I thought the number was going to come at least -9.5.............but will probably regret not doing so.

As stated, I'm not playing the game, but ISU is the ONLY side one should be considering here...........I've followed this rivalry since it started up again in 1977 and been to many of them in person............and I'm telling you, ISU takes this game 3x more seriously than the Hawks. Many of the ISU players were considered not good enough to play for the Hawkeyes and many grew up being Hawkeye fans or major Hawkeye haters.............and their team is filled with players from the state of Iowa.

I will be doing heavy research on the game in the next few days and be posting significant finds here in this thread.
