Dana White Tells Gilbert Melendez to ‘Start Looking Elsewhere’ After Contract Negotiations

The future of Gilbert Melendez’s relationship with the UFC is looking bleak. After months of trying to ink a new deal with the sport’s premier league, it is a possibility that ‘El Nino’ may have to jump ship and call another promotion ‘home’.
Dana White elaborated on the complications of the negotiation process during his recent appearance on UFC Tonight. “I’m done. It’s not going well at this point. I like Gilbert Melendez very much, but I don’t like his management,” White told UFC Tonight. He continued, “If he wants to fight in the UFC, he better talk to Lorenzo quick.” Lorenzo Fertitta is a co-owner of the UFC.
Gilbert Melendez’s manager is Rodolphe Beaulieu, who happens to be the manager of former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre. “Being Georges St-Pierre’s best friend does not make you a good manager,” said White.
Gilbert Melendez last appeared in the octagon at UFC 166 when he defeated Diego Sanchez in one of the most exciting fights of 2013. After getting his hand raised in victory, Melendez had officially fulfilled his required number of fights on his Zuffa contract and was essentially a free agent. After months of trying to negotiate a new deal with Zuffa management, Dana White finally told Gilbert Melendez to start looking for a new home.
“He better start looking elsewhere.”

On Monday morning, Brazilian welterweight Luiz de Franca (3-0 MMA) was shot dead inside a BJJ and fitness Alta Performance gym in Natal, Brazil. Alta Performance houses Kimura Nova Uniao, which is an affiliate of the famed Nova Uniao gym. Franca’s alleged attacker was a police officer who he had recently expelled from the gym for street fighting.
Sadly, on Tuesday night the bad news continued, as another fighter Guilherme “Kioto” Matos Rodrigues was found murdered in the same city. The 30 year-old Rodrigues, who is a member of the Pitbull Brothers team, was found shot in a juice shop.
Guilherme Cruz has the story via MMAFighting:

According to the police, two men approached in a motorcycle and shot at “Kioto”.
Rodrigues was rushed to the hospital, but he died during surgery.
“I can’t imagine why someone would do that to him,” Rodrigues’ teammate and Bellator fighter Patricio “Pitbull” Freire told MMAFighting.com on Wednesday. “He was a handsome guy, everybody knew who he was, so maybe someone was jealous of him. He trains with me for 12 years, and I never saw him getting trouble with anyone.”
Rodrigues (19-9) competed against some of the best fighters in the Brazilian circuit, including UFC veterans Ronys Torres, Iliarde Santos, and John Teixeira da Conceicao.
The police have no suspects of the crime thus far, according to Freire.

probably talking about the new UFC uniforms and how it deals with sponsoring. i think Dana and the fertittas left a spot big enuf to stamp a dime on so the guys can get a half of a sponsor.

Varner is a fan friendly fighter on the lines of a guy like Pickett. This comment has killed that vibe with Dana. Next loss could be his last. After his last fight he could have lost four more times
