#73"I think this might be the UFC record for taking a fight on short notice, since we're governed by the athletic commissions – five days," he said. "It's still hard to say no. You don't want to disappoint them – you want to be the guy who can step up. It's definitely nerve-wracking taking a fight on that short of notice, not being to properly prepare and train and focus."Comment -

I don't know if I'd just feed him to Condit quite yet, but everyone in kind of that low to mid top 15ish range who would make a good matchup is booked.
After he mows down Alves, definitely deserves a top 10 guy though.Comment -

#78Weird.... http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/For...pectacle-52239
Former boxing world champion Ricardo Mayorga's strangely-long-awaited MMA debut could hardly be described as “fireworks,” which is ironic given that notorious pugilist's bizarre victory in the main event of Omega MMA's “Battle of the Americas” was met with a literal (and elaborate) fireworks display.
Friday night at the Pharaoh's Casino in his hometown of Managua, Nicaragua, Mayorga managed to overcome his complete lack of grappling ability against unheralded opponent Wesley Tiffer, ultimately stopping the Canadian transplant with what appeared to be an illegal knee to the spine at the end of the second round.
The fight was originally conceived as a lightweight contest, then a 160-pound catch-weight before Thursday's weigh-in, at which Mayorga clocked in at 175.9 pounds. Tiffer, who claimed a 5-1 record entering the bout and hadn't competed since 2009, tipped the beam at 153 pounds. The 39-year-old Mayorga, who held world titles at 147 and 154 in the squared circle, looked every bit as physically terrible as the number on the scale suggested.
Mayorga was originally expected to debut inside the cage back in May 2010 in the headliner of the ill-fated Shine Fights “World Collide” against UFC veteran Din Thomas. “El Matador's” MMA debut never materialized as the North Carolina Boxing Authority canceled the show amidst shambolic circumstances, effectively killing Shine Fights as a promotion.
Mayorga was taken down by Tiffer after his opening salvo of punches and spent the vast majority of the bout's 10 minutes clinging to Tiffer, who held full mount and did little with it. On the sporadic occasions of Mayorga's escape, he was taken back down immediately after attempting to punch, right back into full mount.
The awkward-yet-tepid bout finally saw drama in the late second round when Mayorga bucked to escape from mount and rolled into a triangle armbar from Tiffer. Mayorga toughed his way through the hold and freed himself from Tiffer's subsequent armbar attempt with what appeared to be an illegal knee to the spine just before the round ended. Referee Milton Rosales Toshi did not call a foul, but after consulting with the cageside physician, Tiffer was deemed unfit to continue, giving Mayorga his first MMA win by stoppage at the end of the second round.
Post-fight, Mayorga jumped on the cage, played to the crowd and fist-bumped his robust posse as a full-blown fireworks display burst into the Nicaraguan night sky.Comment -

#88Alves is overrated and lives off his name. His last good win was Kos at UFC 90. He is a stubby man and has been out a long time.
But if this is the case I would be thrilled and bet Alves. I figure(d) this will open around even. If it stays standing Brown wins with reach and aggressiveness. But if Alves can get it to the ground he could do well there. Hard to tell what Alves' gameplan will be, he likes to bang, but shouldn't here.Comment -

#89Alves will open a favorite due to name alone. People consistently underrates brown, not that i know why with that glorious chest hair. Alves is best when he gets comfortable and warmed up a little like in the kampmann fight. Doubt Brown is going to let him do that though. Look forward to see the odds on this oneComment -

#95I read a post on Cerebraldog a while ago pointing out how Jones is not a draw, but the LHW title is. It compared numbers from the Evans/Machida and Jones/Machida fights, and other title fights in which Jones opponents fought. It was very interesting stuff.Comment -

#96Mayweather vs Ghost didn't do as well as expected either. I think theses numbers have more to do with the 2007/2008 recession (that we are still in) than MMA peaking or Boxing being on the downslide. Belts are tightening and people have far less expendable income than before.Comment -

Most of his shows will do better then the non GSP/Silva and occasionally Cain headlined cards, but he is nowhere on the level of a GSP or a Silva. He is not as much of a draw as you would expect given his dominant title reign. If anything, the fact that this actually did 550k probably had more to do with Chael then Jones.
Though, conversely, there were likely people who did not buy this show because the fight made no sense.Comment -

#98Team Alpha Male head coach has some unique coaching techniques. He reveals one of them to MMAmania.com

#100Well PPVs have been harder to come by these days in MMA. It isn't what it used to be for multiple reasons. 550k is a good PPV these days. Not that bad for such a crap fight and a overall mediocre card. They would have done more if they would have faked their beef more on the show. After the show they tried hard to act like they were enemies, which was total promotion. They are both goofballs outside of the cage and the whole fight was a waste of time. But 550K isn't that bad.Comment -
