Why do managers take out the SP after the damage is done?
I am watching the Dodger game and Joe Torre decides to leave Billingsley in after giving up two singles and a walk (all of this happens with two outs). Adam LaRoche comes up to the plate and whacks the second pitch into the stands for a grand salami. After this, Torre decides to take him out and put in Beimel to get one out.

It doesn't make any sense to me.

Makes no sense at all, happens all the time. My favourite move is the intentional walk and next batter smacks it out.

That surely makes the manager look stupid. I see that plan backfire all the time.

Like when Stl kept Wainright in and let him give up a 4 run lead to make my RL look like gold to shit in 1 innings time..

bc you try to save your pen at all costs
bc pens win and lose games more than starters, i think

also, billingsley is good enough to get laroche out, give him a shot, show confidence

every day and all the time teams get out of jams with starters, hell, probably every other inning!

Need to save your bullpen. A tired bullpen, even a good one, will not be very useful. That is why starting pitching is so important, if you see a team that has starters go deep into games on a consistent basis the bullpen woes usually cure themselves.

I get that the managers are trying to save their pen, but aren't you trying to minimize the damage before it gets too out of hand?

I never said that at all. I'm not asking them to read the future, but if a guy is struggling with his command, then shouldn't you take him out? You do have long relievers in the pen for a reason right?
