    Barry Bonds a Ray?
Should Tampa Bay sign Barry Bonds? The media circus would destroy this team if he signs. Right now I am rooting for the Rays, but if they picked up Bonds I couldn't root for them anymore. What do you guys think?

At this point in the season, I don't know if it is worth it. He is going to need to be acclimated to big league pitching in time for september.

Barry is Manny except Barry is a little better at drawing walks, fielding and hussling.

Yeah, but being a little better in those categories means nothing. Manny is a much much better hitter.

Barry had the highest OBP in 2008. The highest. He won't hurt any team he goes to.

He hasn't been signed because there is an unwritten rule right now to not sign Barry.

Why would the Marlins, who have a LF who has an OBP in the 2's and a slugging in the 3's not sign Barry Bonds?

I do not know what type if shape he is in but if he is in good shape Bonds can help every club in the league

Bonds is on same level as Manny but gets on base more and my h more feared by pitchers

I don't think it would be a wise choice for the D'rays to sign Barry, and here's why.

#1. He wouldn't be in playing shape for the stretch run
                    #2. The Media circus
#3. It would hurt the team chemistry they have going on right now.

Saw Bonds on TV recently he is in top shape much better than the 2007 season becase his knee prevented him from working out like he likes too.

He's fit and healthy, and could fall out of bed and hit major league pitching...

No it would be a terrible signing for them. Why mess with that team's great chemistry right now by inflicting a cancer in the clubhouse?

With all due respect guys, when was Barry ever known by his fellow teamates as a "clubhouse cancer"?

He's a bad people person (with the media) no doubt but I don't hear droves of ex-teamates saying he was a cancer.

No. But Lt is trying to say why mess with a winning formula. It may not be he himself who would screw up the clubhouse, but rather the media attention that goes along with his signing.

He can be an ahole but he can be charming and and big help if he wants to, I think he would be a bit humbled and a much better teammate, and when he wants to impart knowledge he can teach young hitters more about hitting in 5 minutes than they know right now...

While he's known for beefing up and taking the cream and the clear, he really is a thinking man's hitter and if you've ever heard some of the few times he's talked about hitting you would see that he is the modern day Ted Williams.

Check some past Jeff Kent interviews while he was with the Giamts. Others shared Kent's feelings, but weren't as up front about it.

Its so funny, Manny Ramirez actually stopped trying. I saw some at bats late in his Red Sox career that were embarassing. He also accosted an elderly travelling secretary, and who the hell knows what else, but no problem send him to the Dodgers. But Barry Bonds oh no, no way. The team will fall apart if he steps foot in a clubhouse, its amazing to me.

Crawford will be out 6-8 weeks and Longoria will be out for a little while. The Rays will lose the al east lead with those two guys out. They need to get someone be it Bonds or Gary Sheffield who's on waivers. Bonds is a good guy and he said he'll play for the minimum which is music to the Rays management's ears.

The media making it impossible to control acclimating him to any team right now, that's the only reason you don't sign him at this point. I've never liked him, but was wondering the same a week ago about whether or not the Astros should sign him to take Carlos Lee's spot. Would just seem to be a tailor-made fit for Bonds to play LF in Houston the rest of the year with Lee out. But no way, it's not going to happen, and even though Bonds is an asshole, it's still a shame that he'll be long remembered with McGwire, Clemens and Sosa as the poster boys for the Steroids Era while the owners pretty much get a skate from the courts of media and public opinion.

Barry also totally yoked Kent up one year. Kent has always been a little on the chumpy side in my book.
