Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 6/24/08
Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

        Baltimore +125

Love the Orioles in this spot. The Cubs are coming off a 3 game sweep of their cross state rivals the White Sox over the weekend, a perfect spot for a letdown. Sure they have the best home record in baseball, but you have to lose sometimes. When you consider Baltimore almost plays 1/5 of their games against the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, I doubt they will be intimidated in this ballpark Young Sean Marshall gets his first start of the year and he will be facing a very aggresive offensive team.

Twins +145. Twins are on a roll against NL teams and look for them to win their seventh straight. (That's something you don't hear everyday). Minnesota's Kevin Slowey 4-6, looks for his third straight win. Peavy is tough but Padres are in a slump.

TWINS +146: The Twins have now won six straight games and eight of their last nine, with all of those contests coming vs. National League opponents. Their offense has feasted on the NL, as Minnesota is batting .306 as a team while averaging 6.78 runs per game over those nine games. Slowey may be just 4-6 with a 4.37 ERA, but his very good 1.18 WHIP in 57.2 innings suggests that he has been pitching much better than his record. In fact, that figure is level with Peavy’s 1.15 WHIP in 68.2 innings. Granted, Peavy is capable of snapping any opponent’s streak, but remember that this is his third start after being on the Disabled List for a month, and he was not that sharp vs. the Yankees last start when he needed 9e pitches to get through just four innings. Besides, if Slowey maintains his current form, Peavy may not get much support from a Padres offense that is batting a modest .245 while averaging a paltry 3.80 runs per game at home this year.

Don't worry Nancy, I still love you! It's just that going forward, I'll only show players that could meet the minimum 20-play requirement. There is nothing wrong with you or any other infrequent players continuing to post plays, as the analysis could still help others.

Brewers are on fire right now and Braves are too inconsistent in both offense and defense. Too many holes in the Braves line up right now.

This will be Gorzelanny's second career start against the Yankees. At Yankee Stadium last season, he allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings and didn't factor in the decision.

Gorzelanny this season at home, record 4-1.
