I'm having some early season baseball issues of my own, but I'd still advise anybody against a play on the Indians (even at -125 for Carmona).

Detroit's offense is on fire. Verlander's ERA is deceptive. He was tough in his last start against the White Sox. Leland should have pulled him sooner. Instead Leland left Verlander on the mound, pitching deep into the late innings of the game, gradually allowing Verlander to get "rocked" by the White Sox's offense (as his arm tired).

I'd take Detroit at the underdog price. Cleveland's not hitting all that well right now. Verlander won't have to work as hard to keep Cleveland's offense unproductive.

Meanwhile Carmona is going to have to deal with slugger after slugger. He probably won't make it past five innings (six tops). Remember: he was having control issues in his last start and issued a sh*t load of walks.

Tigers bats were alive against crappy Sabathia. Carmona is a righty who keeps the ball low. The power bats of Detroit are right handed. He should contain them.
