The A's and Braves have reached a preliminary agreement on a deal that would send Mark Kotsay to Atlanta for Joey Devine.
The Braves will be on the hook for just $2 million of the $7.375 million that Kotsay is owed, but to get him that cheap, they had to part with a very talented young reliever. We're quite skeptical that Kotsay will be a useful regular, though he should be an upgrade over Josh Anderson for the short-term. Jordan Schafer still might get his chance come July.

Mark Kotsay is a good ballplayer imo if he stays healthy, and the Braves are a very smart orginization when it comes to scouting talent. Maybe they see something in Devine that they dont think he will be as successful as other scouts think and they want to get rid of him while hes got higher value. Not every minor leaguer pans out. Thats why it takes the best scouts to judge talent because once a minor leaguer gets up to the big leagues its a whole new ball game and not every guy can handle it and be successful. I think it would be a nice move for the Braves and would make their lineup look pretty damn good
