I always thought up 2 runs was a good cushion and once your team is up 3 runs you are in very good shape even when its early in the game as in the first 1st or 2nd inning. However, i seen 4 run leads and 6 run leads all melt down.

I'm starting to think i need a team to be up at least 10 runs for it to be close to a winner now.

This year no lead is safe, I've never lost so many games being up more than 1 run in the ninth. It's almost comical.

Never feel safe, look at what happened with AZ and all the games in the past week. I've been on the receiving end of a couple of screw overs...

Depends... if I'm betting on the Padres I'm comfortable with a 1 run lead. If I'm betting on the Diamondbacks I'm comfortable with a 7 run lead.

Don't be. Aging hitter whose play in the field is declining and his contract is expiring this year. Just be happy we got some prospects in return for him instead of letting him walk for nothing after a couple more oevrpaid low production months. I liked Lee, he was a nice guy and a fine athlete, but business is business. Hell, who knows, he may even sign with us next year for a lot less! Anything's possible.

since i've been betting baseball (27 years) at least twice a season either teams im on or against blow 7 run leads.. usually happens twice a season.. 4 run leads 3-4 times a season.. i guess the answer would be 8 for me overall.. watch you always look for though is a 4 run lead.. most of the time your safe although tonight ariz. blew a 4 run lead that killed me.. shoulda gone 1st 5 inn.

I think the worst a team that I've backed has ever done is lose a 7-1 lead after seven innings. Generally, however, my comfort level is pretty good at 5; I assume that if the worst (a grand slam) happens, I'm still ahead.

But others have said it just as well: you never feel comfortable until the game is over. You learn this quickly if you've ever taken a three-run lead into the ninth inning, giving the 1.5, and the trailing team goes out-out-single-home run.

The way the bullpens have been folding like tents the last month or so, I don't feel safe with any run lead until the last out is made. The White Sox come to mind first and foremost but there are many others. ridiculous!

So many factors... ballpark, weather, pitch counts, bullpens...

So I'd say about 23. 23 runs ahead in the 8th inning and I feel fairly safe..unless it's the white sox.
