I look up at the Giants' half of the 10th, and their 3, 4 and 5 hitters are a washed up veteran having a resurrected year (for now), a rookie and Pat Burrell.
Why this team didn't go out and get a bat, I will never understand -- because they do have the pitching to win the NL (again, not saying much).
If Torres and Huff weren't having anomalistic seasons, I'd hate to see where this team would be.

lol funny you make this thread. I know Giants fans are very passionate, but I f'n hate Giants fans. They think there team is IT and they will win everything and no other team exists. I have met hundreds of SF fans, in person and on the board and they are all the same. Just saying

They have no chance in the NL and that's saying a lot because it straight up sucks.

At least their team is in the pennant race. Can't say the same for many high payrolls and overrated teams like Mets, Cubs, etc.

East coast bias. Over the past few years, NL has won a few shares of World Series. Remember Cardinals, Phillies, Marlins, D backs. It's foolish to say NL doesn't have a chance to win World Series.

Bitter about what? They won tonight, but it was like pulling teeth to score against the Cubs.
I love SF's staff. Love it. Bullpen's pretty solid, though Wilson gets a little wild at times.
That lineup, though....
A lot like SD.

SD with payroll of $43 millions is in the pennant race compared to $135 millions payroll of Mets, who are laughing stock of baseball. At least SD and SF are competitive with the money they are given. Can't say the same things about other teams like Mets, Cubs, Tigers, etc.

True.
I just don't understand, when you're that close to being a true contender and obviously need a bad to complement your pitching, why SF and/or SD didn't go after an offensive threat at the deadline.

It's not that simple. The teams with low payroll can't easily acquire big bats and increase their payrolls. That's the only reason why only big market teams like Yankees, Phillies, Angels can acquire big name players like Berkman, Oswalt, Haren. Of course, SD, SF, and even Rays want big bat name like Adam Dunn. But, they can't afford him aka can't increase their payroll. Just watch how Carl Crawford will become Yankees next season because Rays can't pay him what he wants. Low payroll teams can only do what they are given. They have to work around with low payroll that means not having big bats then so be it.

Like COLORADO still- last year 4 of 5 teams in the west finished above .500. As of today 4 of the 5 are 500. or above. Yes the NL is inferior this year, in fact even with home field advantage in this years World Series- the AL is a -1.65 favorite.

The teams that have the bats know the Giants need them, and overcharge. There is simply no bat available worth, to them, a starting pitcher. I would've traded Sanchez for Corey Hart. That was a rumor and I'm not sure that trade was actually on the table. The problem is if Sanchez ever learns to command his pitches consistently he will be an ace.... so its tough.
While Huff and Torres are doing better than expected, Freddy Sanchez and Sandoval have been extremely disappointing. I'm actually getting tired of Panda and his fat ass, he better lose a lot of weight next season or he will be a one year wonder. (Nice 3" leap on Soriano's 1st inning liner fatso)
The Giants as they are presently constituted have a decent chance to win the division and little or no chance to beat better teams like Philly, St. Louis and Atlanta. As a longtime fan, a playoff appearance would be a step in the right direction and acceptable for now. But, man, they better upgrade the offense in the off-season or Sabean (the king of the teflon GMs) needs to, finally, go.

Remember when Matt Herges was closing, and they had Marvin Bernard, Shinjo, Shawon Dunston and Jeffery Hammonds in the OF.

The funny thing is the Giants are 7-7 (.500) against the above mentioned teams. The Giants can obviously beat top N.L. teams...but they are not up to the standards of the top A.L. teams (i.e. Yankees and Rays) because they have an offense that can't score when they get walked 9 times like last night against Zambrano. They have arguably the best pitching staff in baseball (top 3 at least) and this keeps them in a lot of 1 run games.
Fatty Pandoval is pissing me off too. He looks like and he is indeed a fat bastard.

When has this been news? J.P. Ricarddi said it best. He said when he was the GM of Toronto he recognized 3 leagues. The National League, The American League and the AL East. That is the must true statement. I am positive the AL East could beat the NL All Stars more time than not.

Well the Giants haven't played at St. Louis or Philly yet, that road trip is coming up. I think St. Louis and Atlanta have better overall staffs. With St. Louis getting the nod with better starters and Atlanta a much better overall bullpen.

So much AL bias. People tend to forget how Marlins and D backs beat the mighty Yankees before. Everyone and their mom suck up to the Yankees like they are some sort of invincible team that can't be beaten. Marlins and D backs proved otherwise. It's not like NL hasn't won the world series before in the past decade with teams like Cardinals, Phillies, Marlins, D backs. So much AL bias and sucking up in this forum.
