First the recap, lost yesterday with the over in the Dodgers game. I'm not going to rant and rave about it even with the friggin 40 people that were left on base. Let's just move on and keep the winners coming. Game 2 of the double header between the Blue Jays and Tigers starts in 1 hour. We have Jesse Litsch going for the Blue Jays and Jeremy Bonderman for the Tigers. Let's talk about Litsch first, guy is nothing special. Has a 1-4 record on the year with 2 no decisions and a 5.79 ERA. It took him 7 starts to get his first win, which he just got against the Royals on the 20th where the Blue Jays exploded for 13 runs and he went 5.2 innings giving up 8 hits and just 1 run. He has pitched 37.1 innings this year giving up 42 hits, 24 runs, and 6 long balls. In night starts it gets even uglier for Litsch. He has a 6.00 ERA in 3 night starts with 21 innings pitched giving up 26 hits and 14 runs. This guy is not a strikeout pitcher. He has a sad total of 2 k's this year in night starts, yep that's right, 2. He also has giving up 8 free passes at night and his opponents on base percentage is .370 and gets even worse when on the road where it climbs to .381.
Now let's talk about Bonderman. He is 5-6 on the year with a 4.98 ERA, and 6 no decisions. He hasn't got past the 6th inning since June 17th where he beat the Nationals 8-3. In his last 3 starts he is 1-1 with a gigantic 8.27 ERA, only 16 innings pitched, and 22 hits surrendered. This guy also has one lone win at night as he is 1-4 with a 5.80 ERA. Somehow he has given up 63 hits and 37 runs in only 54 innings pitched at night so it's clear to me that hitters have no problem seeing and hitting Mr. Bonderman at night. He also gives up a handful of free passes as he has 17 on the year at night and opponents have no problem with the long ball as he has given up 8 home runs. As you saw in Game 1 of this doubleheader the Blue Jays have some power and can go deep. Bonderman certainly has shown that he will give up some meatballs at some point in the game.
Brian Gorman is the umpire for today's Game 2. He has umped 20 games this year with the home team winning 11 of them and the over is 11-8-1 with him behind the plate. His games average 9.65 runs per game and 2.15 balls will leave the field when he is back there. These starting pitchers tend to walk people and I'm sure Mr. Gorman will help that cause today as there are 7 walks per game when he is the umpire. Over is 5-1 in Gormans last 6 games behind home plate and the Over is 4-1 in Gormans last 5 Sunday games behind home plate. As I looked deeper into the match up I found out that the Over is 5-1 in Blue Jays last 6 Sunday games, Over is 5-1 in Blue Jays last 6 during game 4 of a series. Over has cashed with Litsch delivering the ball as the Over is 5-0 in Litschs last 5 starts as a road underdog and 6-1 in Litschs last 7 road starts. To be honest I like how game 1 ended. If you look nobody in that game scored for the first 5 innings and then the offense turned it up. There were 2 home runs in the 6th, one in the 7th, and one in the 9th. 2 doubles and a triple were also recorded in the later innings. I look for both teams to continue that momentum into Game 2. It's a nice 82 degrees in Detroit right now with the wind blowing 9mph out to right field. I don't know about you fellas, but I'm taking the Over at plus money in this one.
