I just read in the link that the Texas Rangers are in bankruptcy. It appears everything George W Bush got involved in his lifetime at some point it went into bankruptcy. First his oil business, then he bankrupt the country when he was a president, and now the Rangers which he was an owner earlier went bankrupt. His life is now in full circle.

how correlated do you think the rangers current bankruptcy is with George Bush's ownership of the team?

Very sick trade. Cliff Lee is bar none the best pitcher in baseball right now IMO. Dude walks NOBODY. That is so crucial. He is sick. Rangers legitimate threat now.

Didn't he trade Sammy Sosa before he was good and that trade is considered one of the worst trades in the history of baseball?

first of all, when do owners make trades????? that is the GM's role

2nd of all, if I recall Sosa went to the white sox in that trade.... how did he do with them?
there is no way in hell that could be considered a top 100 worse trade of all time

3rd of all, I remember reading that Bush's group profited in the hundreds of millions when they sold the club... so they must have done a decent job in their tenure... although I do believe there was some shady shit that went down.....

4th of all if you want to signal a decades old deal that resulted in a 2010 bankruptcy, why not go with the Arod contract?

I like the 3rd argument. It reminds me of the no bid contracts Halliburton got when he was a President. He made billions for them but when he left the country went to bankruptcy. The similarities are stunning.

                      looked it up

When the Rangers franchise was sold for $250 million in 1998, at a total profit of $170 million, Bush personally received $14.9 million for his $600,000 investment.[7] As managing general partner of the Rangers, Bush assisted the team's media relations and the construction of a new stadium.[8] His public role generated valuable goodwill and reinforced name recognition throughout Texas that was already high as he had the identical name as his father who was President during this era.

14.9 million from a 600k investment is pretty nice

And I did find the Sosa trade mentioned as a top worst trade of all time.... both the rangers to the sox, and the sox to the cubs...

pretty interesting that Sosa was twice part of "worst trades of all time" maybe he really wasn't much of a player till the juice and cork....

Bush also said at some point in a presidential campaign that, the sosa/alvarez trade was the worst mistake of his life... so I guess he did have some input into it as well

Pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one.

Cliff Lee is going to really help that ball club. Does anyone else remember his days of mediocrity? What the hell got into this guy? Nevertheless, its good to see the Rangers finally net two solid pitchers in Colby Lewis and now Lee after assembling some of the worst staffs to date.

That's OK, Yankees will sign him in the off-season.
