Why on Earth would anyone take the Nats? Pitt is the play, clearly. These aren't minor leaguers. They are the Pirates but shit, AAA Toledo, Carlos Guillen, an average pro, hit him with ease.

I doubt he feels that pressure either. Note it says that's the pressure that bettors will place on the kid's first start, not the pressure that Strasburg will feel because others are betting on him.

The Nationals have officially added pitching prospect Stephen Strasburg to the major-league roster in preparation for his first start Tuesday night against the Pirates. From The Sports Xchange notes: He will be limited to no more than 100 pitches against the Pirates. Strasburg had a combined 7-2 record and 1.30 ERA at Triple-A Syracuse and Double-A Harrisburg (Penn.).

Pittsburgh AA team faced strasburg twice, and have a bit of a book on him... in fact the altoona curve had the most success out of any team in figuring Strasburg out. The post-gazette reported that the Pirates coaching staff had been contacted by their scouts and the coaches of the altoona team. It is possible that a youngster like Strasberg is still working on NOT tipping his pitches, and that the pirates have the book on him.

also remember that the Pirates tend to hit really good pitchers alot better for some reason....

I've been looking for someone from the Nats to come out and say they will let him go over 90. I'm sure the situation will dictate the decision, but I believe 78 was the most he threw in a minor league start, so I'll still be surprised if he goes over 90 for a few starts.

Amazing performance but pitchers always have the advantage the first go-around the league, if he does it in August and September like he does it in June, then start preparing the plaque in the Hall of Fame.
