#7958First off, I’m looking for Brett Myers to rebound from his second-worst start of the season, as he surrendered six runs (five earned) on six hits and four walks on Friday at Pittsburgh. That snapped Myers’ string of eight consecutive quality starts during which the veteran right-hander had posted a 1.47 ERA. That includes a strong start against the Reds 11 days ago in Houston, with Myers yielding just six hits in seven shutout innings of a 4-3 home win.
Another positive about Myers: He managed to get through six innings in Friday’s ugly outing against the Pirates – he even got a 10-7 victory – so he’s now gone at least six innings in each of his 32 starts this season.
Myers’ counterpart tonight – Reds right-hander Bronson Arroyo – is also in very good form, going 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA in his last three starts and holding seven of his last eight opponents to three runs or fewer. That includes an 11-1 win at Houston on Sept. 18, with Arroyo allowing just the one run on four hits and one walk in six innings. So in his last seven starts versus the Astros dating to August 2008, Arroyo has given up just 11 runs in 50 innings (1.98 ERA).
Although the “over” easily hit in Arroyo’s 11-1 victory at Houston nearly two weeks ago, the “under” had cashed in his eight previous starts against the Astros since the start of the 2008 season. And even though Myers’ last start at Pittsburgh soared over the number, the under is still 12-2-2 in his last 14 starts. The under is also on runs of 12-2 for the Astros when they face right-handed starters on the road, 5-1 when Myers pitches on the road, 7-2-1 in Reds home games, 32-15-4 when Arroyo faces N.L. Central foes and 6-2 when Arroyo starts at home.Comment -

#7959" Greinke, who is 0-4 in seven career starts against Tampa, is not the same pitcher who won the Cy Young Award last season. He is 9-14 with a 4.23 ERA, and rolls into what is his last start of the season having given up 13 runs in 9 2/3 innings while losing his last two outings.
This past Saturday he was torched by Cleveland, which drilled him for seven runs and 11 hits over 3 2/3 innings of a 7-1 loss. Plus the Royals have lost three in a row and five of six at home to the Rays.
I'd rather side with Matt Garza, who I'm getting at a cheap price off a strong one-run, seven-inning victory over Seattle in his last start. List both pitchers and back the Rays. "Comment -

#7966"Baltimore starter Jeremy Guthrie has a 5 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio in his last 3 starts. The Orioles are 6-2 their last 8 home games and they are 12-4 their last 16 games vs. a starter with a WHIP of over 1.30. The Birds are 14-4 in game one of a series and they are 11-5 their last 16 games vs. righty starters. Detroit starter Jeremy Bonderman has 11 walks and 4 strikeouts in his last 3 starts. the Tigers are 29-59 their last 88 games as road underdogs. Detroit is 6-15 vs. AL East teams and they are 16-36 their last 52 road games vs. righty starters. Detroit is 7-15 when the total is 7.0 to 8.5."Comment -

#7971I really like Enright and Ariz at price. Bumgardner is good also but Barry can flat out pitch with the best of them when his stuff is on. I already took Ariz +162, just to much value for me to pass up. Good luck on your plays today everyone.Comment -

Bumgarner's last 4: 0-2, 1.38 ERA
(2 total runs of support, good for 0.5 runs of support per game)
Also, betting against a home sweep?
and the padres are in a MUST WIN situation in order for their weekend series vs SF to be meaningful. so, provided that SD wins during an early game today, dont you think the Giants will come out firing against a recently poor-pitching Enright in order to try and clinch during game 1 or 2 of the series vs SD, rather than taking it to game 3 or even worse a 1 game playoff ?
Enright has pitched well against SF at times this year, i will conceed that. However, in his most recent outing vs SF, the Giants touched him for 6 ER.
Beyond that, Enright's numbers are a little decieving IMO: his best starts came against STL, WAS (2 starts), MIL, FLA, NYM (2 starts), and COL - ALL non-playoff teams. additionally WAS, MIL, FLA, and NYM have .500 or below records. This does not include getting rocked up by PIT last week for 6 ER.
I would say SF looks good, and if the risk at -180 (or right around there) is too much, i think the run line is pretty safe also.Comment -
