Hump Day Weather & Umps (Aug 26)
MLB Betting: Hump Day Weather & Umps

    Afternoon Contests

All times listed are Eastern, weather forecasts current as of 8:00 a.m. (ET).

    Indians at Royals (-111, 9½) 2:10 p.m.
Weather: Might have a delay in this game, and with Cleveland and KC each not going anywhere this year, it's a game the umps could give up on for you totals bettors. Reason for that is the Royals take off to travel two tome zones to Seattle for a weekend series beginning Thursday. The betting odds for rain are at 60% as the day goes on, winds East 5-8 MPH (in from RF).

HP Umpire: Unless there's a change in the rotation, reserve ump Damien Beal will call this one. I can't think of when I've heard his name before. It's his third game behind the plate this year, 1-1 on the home team and 1-1 on the totals. You tell me.

    Tigers at Angels (-114, 9½) 3:35 p.m.
Weather: At some point in this game it is going to climb into the lower-90s with NW winds in the 6-9 range (from LF corner to RF corner).

HP Umpire: Mark Carlson is south of the dish with interesting numbers if you hang your hat on that sort of thing. He's 16-10 ML for the home team and 10-16 P/U on the totals. (5-12 8½-10).

    Evening Contests

    Padres at Braves (-207, 8½) 7:00 p.m.
Weather: Should be still in the lower-80s, maybe higher, for first pitch with a slight chance for a passing shower in this one. Not much wind to speak of.

HP Umpire: Tough guy to get a handle on, Tim Timmons. He's 11-15 for the home team, but 9-9 on home faves, and 12-12-2 in the totals column.

    Rangers at Yankees (-183, 10) 7:05 p.m.
Weather: Low-80s to mid-70s as game progresses, passing thunderstorm is possible but not much chance. NW winds 5-10 (out to RF).

HP Umpire: Bob Davidson is the man behind the mask, a pretty even-Steven ump this year at a 12-12 split on the home team and 13-10-1 on totals.

    Phillies at Pirates (+165, 8½) 7:05 p.m.
Weather: Forecast calls for isolated t-storms in the greater Pittsburgh area as the evening goes by, mid-to-upper 70s for game time and a light breeze blowing from 3B out to the Allegheny.

HP Umpire: Mike Everitt has been cashing heavy on home teams, 18-9, even home dogs (5-2). He's an Over lean at 16-10-1. I suspect both trends will be bucked tonight.

    Rays at Blue Jays (+119, 9) 7:07 p.m.
Weather: Chance of showers early in the day, but tapering off. They've got a roof they can slide over so not a factor. Game time temp in the upper-60s outdoors.

HP Umpire: Jerry Crawford, the old bastard, is scheduled behind the plate. He's 14-6 for the home team, but 5-1 on home dogs (4-1 to +140). No lean really on totals, 10-9-1 O/U.

    White Sox at Red Sox (-143, 9½) 7:10 p.m.
Weather: About a 30% chance of rain through day in the Boston area, upper-70s and muggy at first pitch, NW 9-12 MPH (LF corner to RF corner).

HP Umpire: Kevin Causey is next up in this rotation with not much to go on. He's got four games under his belt, 3-1 for the home team and all of them Unders to this point.

    Mets at Marlins (+220, 8) 7:10 p.m.
Weather: Scattered thunderstorms in the evening, warm and muggy, NNE winds 8-14 MPH (Over the Teal Monster in towards 1B dugout).

HP Umpire: Bringing an 11-15 record for the home team (7-11 on home favorites) and 14-12 O/U mark into this one is Mike Reilly.

    Reds at Brewers (-178, 9½) 8:05 p.m.
Weather: Another stadium with a pop top lid, and with the chance of rain and game time temps in the mid-60s, I suspect it will be closed.

HP Umpire: Bill Miller has leaned slightly to the visitors with a 15-12 record on away teams. He is also a big Under winner with a 9-17-1 O-U record.

    Nationals at Cubs (-270, N/A) 8:05 p.m.
Weather: Solid shot for at least a damp evening if not a delay if not more. There's going to be rain during the day and a 60% shot of more in the evening with NE winds 10-14 (in from CF), possibly higher, thermometer showing about 68º when the first pitch is delivered.

HP Umpire: Rob Drake has no leans with a 14-14 mark for home/away and 15-13 O/U record.

    Orioles at Twins (-157, 9½) 8:10 p.m.
    Weather: Indoors.

HP Umpire: Todd Tichenor is another unknown ump to me in his first season. He's been bad news for home teams at 9-17 on the moneyline, but good news for Under bettors at 10-16. Six 1-run games in those 26 contests.

    Astros at Cardinals (-133, 7½) 8:15 p.m.
Weather: Cloudy but not much chance for rain. Also not much wind to speak of, around 79º at first pitch.

HP Umpire: Dana Demuth has favored the home team 14-12 and 13-7 when they're favored, and is 11-14-1 on totals, 3-4-1 when it's eight or less.

      Late Evening Contests

      Dodgers at Rockies (+122, 10½) 8:40 p.m.
Weather: A chance for a passing storm, temps dropping to the low-60s as game continues, South-Southwest winds 5-10 (from 3B on-deck circle out to right-center).

HP Umpire: Mike Dimuro owns a 14-12 mark on the home team, just 2-3 when they’re the underdog, and 2-1 O/U in games with a total of 10½ or higher.

      Athletics at Mariners (-113, 8½) 10:10 p.m.
Weather: Ironically, Seattle might be having the best weather on the MLB map today and there’s a good chance the roof remains open. No rain in the forecast for the Seattle area with a start temperature in the low-70s and a light wind.

HP Umpire: Another fill-in if the rotation hangs as Dan Bellino is scheduled to work just his second game of the season.

      Diamondbacks at Giants (-137, 7½) 10:15 p.m.
Weather: On the cool side with the thermometer in the mid-to-lower 60s at the start. But no chance of rain and WNW winds 6-10 (3B dugout towards right-center).

HP Umpire: Ted Barrett has been money, money, money on the home teams with a 17-8 record, 11-6 when they’re favored. He’s also 2-4 with a total of eight or less, 7-17-1 O/U overall this season.
