so far the early bets on thespread.com have been coming in on Mil and the line is already -115 Cardinals at the Greek. I took the Cardinals.. They want this win after tonight.. and Pinero is a better pitcher period.. Cardinals do well against Parra and he hasn't pitched a major league game in almost a month...

maybe it does look too easy..maybe i am a fool.. but Cardinals are one of the few games I actually like tomorrow

Other than his last start at home vs the White Sox, Parra had pitched decent at home in his previous 4 starts. But to me, he allows way too many baserunners. With a WHIP of 1.92, that's almost 2 baserunners per inning! You can't just keep getting out of jams every single inning and expect to make it past the 5th or 6th inning. There are other games out there. If anything, look at the St. Louis team total.

I just had a huge discussion with someone about this. This is what I came up with:

Parra has been downright horrible this year but his numbers vs. STL are pretty good. Pineiro on the other hand has been quite good. Brewers benefited from 10 walks today and only managed 5 runs. Pineiro rarely gives up more than 2 walks per game. STL bats have been swinging much better than MIL over their last few games. Pujols went 0-4 today but his numbers against Parra are very good (6 for 15 1.345 OPS). Expect Pujols to rebound in a big way. The only thing that might give MIL an edge was the emotional win tonight. But my money would be on STL or no play.

                              Rotoworld:

"Parra went 1-2 with a 2.92 ERA in four starts with the Nashville Sounds, but NL-only leaguers shouldn't rush to the waiver wire just yet. Keep in mind he had a 7.52 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 55/41 K/BB ratio through 64 1/3 innings before his demotion."

Seems he had one blowout but generally pitched very well in Triple A and is getting his act back together. Whether that will translate in the Majors is yet to be seen.

My guess is that the line is low because of some big trends:

Cardinals are 1-6 in their last 7 games vs. a left-handed starter.
Cardinals are 0-5 in Pineiros last 5 starts during game 3 of a series.

Seems the Cards are simply not hitting left-handers right now.

Also don't forget that Hoffman likely won't be available to close this game out should the score stay close. He had over 20 pitches today so I'd say he is doubtful for tomorrow.

With all factors considered, I got STL at -106 which I still think is huge value. The line is dropping pretty quick so some big money is on STL early.

Pujos may be taking the day off. He is in the Home run contest and the local sports radio station said he will get tomorrow off.

You need to check in the morning.

The Cards are ranked 29th in the majors for BAA and OPS vs lefties. While lefty Manny Parra's overal stats are downright ugle he has pitched two decent satrts against the Cards earlier this year. He had an excellent line from his last minor league game giving up no runs in seven innings but most importantly only 2 walks.
