30-38 with an ERA close to 5 over the last five seasons pitching in a park the size of the Grand Canyon. Makes $10 million a year. That's highway robbery.Comment -

#12What the heck are you talking about, can't you add up some numbers or where is your problem?
You talked about the last 5 seasons: '10, '11, '12, '13, '14. Or do you mean: '11, '12, '13, '14, '15? Doesn't matter, both shows you don't know what you are talking about.
'10: 194 IP, 3.80 ERA (82 ER)
'11: 222 IP, 2.88 ERA (71 ER)
'12: 208.1 IP, 4.02 ERA (93 ER)
'13: 181.1 IP, 4.91 ERA (99 ER)
'14: 201 IP, 3.63 ERA (81 ER)
'15: 50 IP, 6.48 ERA (36 ER)
So if you take '10-'14 you get an average ERA of 3.85.
If you take '11-'15 you get an average ERA of 4.38.
Where is your 4.63 or 5?
Maybe you ever heard that an ERA is calculated via innings pitched? This shows even that this 'average ERA', which is even lower than your fake number, is 'wrong'. You have to sum up IP and ER and then his numbers are:
'10-'14: 1006.2 IP, 426 ER, 3.81 ERA.
'11-'15: 862.2 IP,380 ER, 3.96 ERA.
So now please tell me, what are you talking about? Get your numbers straight and then come back again.Comment -

Why are you so interested in defending this dude? Point stands. He had one huge (obviously fluke) year -- 2011 -- and has been garbage his entire career around it compared to the hype he carried coming up. Take that 21-4 out of the equation and he has a career 48-54 record with an ERA of 4.23. 20-20 with a 4.21 ERA in the most spacious ballpark in the majors.
He's a bum.Comment -

#14'12-15. Sorry, I was adding his Arizona stats double because the page I looked at listed both his split and overall record in '13 when he pitched for two teams.

Man, why are you using a 'stat' who is absolutely nonsense. W-L record means nothing. Nothing. Nothing. When do all guys learn that? Heck, you can pitch to an 2.50 ERA and have a negative W-L record as a SP because you get no run support.
Why I am interested in 'defending him'?
First: See what RavensFan2k3 has written. I absolutely agree.
Second: 23.1 K% (career high), 7.2 BB% (one of the best of his career), 15.8 K-BB%, .331 BABIP (career high), 68.1 LOB% (career low), 2.16 HR/9 (career high), 24% HR/FB (career high), 34.2 FB% (career low).
So, we have a guy, who has a career high K%, a more than solid BB% and K-BB%, a very high BABIP and low LOB% (suggesting bad luck), who has given up a career high HR/9 on a career high HR/FB, although he has a career low FB%.
Do you really think this guy will keep on giving up as many homeruns? Yes? then do it. I DON'T.
His SIERA sits at 3.58 and his xFIP at 3.61.
Do you really think this guy will keep on having an ERA of 6.xx+? Yes? Then do it. I DON'T.Comment -
