Last night the red opened -118 favs now up to +104 i really liked the reds even at -118 not im a little scared of the line

Never mind looks like my book made a mistake going by sbr line history Chicago opened at minus favorites

Cubs are at home with the better pitcher. It makes since to me that they are the favorites.

Simon isn't/wasn't the better pitcher IMO, he was the one with more or luck and better run support.
When you look at Simon's stats you see a 5.58 K/9, 2.23 BB/9, 1.12 HR/9, 12.6% HR/FB. You wouldn't expect a guy with those numbers to have an ERA of 3.05, let alone 10-3 W-L. His BABIP is fairly low, his LOB% is very high, FIP, xFIP and SIERA are much higher than his ERA. I expect Simon's ERA to get worse as the season progresses.

I haven't seen him enough to argue against it, but he 'beats' Simon in nearly all relevant statistical categories. And his sabermetric numbers are much closer to his ERA than the sabermetrics of Simon.

I read today where Smrzutvkdja is 0-5 with a 4.79 in his last 10 starts vs the Reds. They've always hit hard throwers better than guys that can change speeds. Phillips may not play but I still like the Reds. Their pen has been brutal but they did get 8 ip from Leake and Cueto in their last 2 games so atleast they got a little rest. The Reds have kicked the shit out of the Cubs in general in Wrigley.....haven't lost a series there in forever

Yeah but this line just look like a classic cubs line in my opinion... Just one of those games where you cant find any reason to like the cubs yet some how they win... Not saying they win or lose today just saying the line definitely makes me wonder...

Right, goes right to what I said about Reds having his number. Well, the 0-4 is meaningless in itself, but it is the fact that they have hit him hard. I think he's had one Quality Start in his last five tries against them.

But if you compare Simardzija vs. Simon vs. the league this year, Shark blows Simon away in every meaningful stat. So it all depends how much you value head-to-head numbers.

He's pitched better lately than those numbers for the year indicate, and people on here and elsewhere have been saying that the regression was inevitable for awhile, but it hasn't happened. He's an ex reliever, he's better with runners on base. Just my opinion based on what I've seen this year. I live in the Cincy area and watch the reds. I didn't just look at the records. I guess we'll find out tonight. Good luck with what ever you choose.
