Potential Letdown Spot for Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole
How does a rookie pitcher have a letdown spot?

MLB debut came against the San Francisco Giants (ultimate high)

Last two starts have come against hometown teams for the Newport Beach, CA native (Dodgers/Angels)

Over 90 percent of the action is landing on the Pirates as -200 home favorites (1-1 in this situation since 1997!)

So you are suggesting your subscribers should back a kid who has given up as many walks as strikeouts and struggles badly against lefties. In his first start no less.

Interesting. Cole's pitch values have been off the charts so far.

      Funny.

You failed to mention his ultimate high debut was against a injured Giants lineup.

Not smart to lay -200 on anyone but to say this guy doesn't have good stuff or a letdown is ridiculous.

Don't see anybody laughing now that there's a 3-0 in 1st. Brew crew is hot right now they almost swept the braves or some team And may have lost a few to cubs But 4-5++ runs in last 5+ games

                            great call

Cole is a bit over-rated, his secondary pitches just aren't there yet. Lacks the ability to miss bats.

He'll be back in the minors soon, (even if he does well due to $/super two status stuff)

unreal to start 3-0 vs Greinke, Lincecum, and Weaver though

I don't think he's that overrated, but the number tonight was asinine -- win or lose. For him to be -220 vs. anyone at this point is just stupid.

Kid for Milwakky never had a shot getting 4-7 here. They stacked 4 lefties in a row here. His OBP against lefties in the minors was over .400.

As soon as Hurdle stacked his lefties there was no value left in the theory that Cole was due for anything. Two sides to every coin boys.

Not that this one is close to over but often the best approach to a first timer is to simply find his weakness and see if the opposing manager has the resources available to expose it. A fairly simple approach but it does have merit.

Implying he might have a letdown game, IMO, says it all.

That being said, I'll admit I did not see Cole giving up three runs, a bunch of hits, and a hit batter to bring in a run in the 1st. So, in that sense, you were correct in saying he would have a let down game. Thanks for your input though.

McCutchen saved this game from being an absolute blowout in the first inning.

A one inning let down for Cole. First 3 batters of the game for MILW scored, zippo since.
