Toronto -140 vs Baltimore (Morrow vs Gausman?)
Thinking about playing this tomorrow as square as it may be.

Anyone have any info/opinions on this Gausman guy? I understand all the hype behind him, but I'm not convinced he's going to go into Toronto and completely shut them down tomorrow. I think Morrow has been under performing a tad and I think he gets back on track tomorrow. This Gausman guy might be something good in the near future, but I think this is a decent price to back Toronto here.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Morrow is very similar to AJ Burnett... great stuff but makes too many mistake pitches
(belt high fastballs, middle of the zone)

that being said he is due for a redemption performance.

The Jays line-up is also a bit akward without Reyes... they lack the table setters for Bautisa and Encarnacion...

              Gausman's Minor League Stats in 2013 [AA] - 49 K / 5 BB / 1.06 WHIP / 3.11 ERA / 1.46 GO/AO

Dude has some nasty control. He could stump the Jays bats and leave them silent for 5-6 innings. Wouldn't expect him to stay in longer than 6.

Gausman shows as being more susceptible to left handed contact as you can see here. High SO rate but polarized BABIP. OPS much higher against left handed hitters.

Morrow can't get a lefthander out to save his own sorry ass. Wait for starting lineups. Historically Showalter will stack as many as 6 lefties in a lineup in this situation. Gibbons can go 5 at most but with less power.

Also today is Showalter's birthday. Gotta think the O's put in extra effort for that. Unless the extra effort was spent last night

Well when you look at the other side you got Morrow. No value there given his struggles against lefties.

The kid is really raw only 61 innings pitched in the minors so backing him is just a crap shoot as well.

Not for the faint of heart. Really one to lay off so far and see if there is something in game that looks good.

With the Orioles in need of a starting pitcher to fill in the rotation, they have summoned the highly-touted Kevin Gausman to fill the void. Ranked as the Orioles’ number two prospect and the 53 rd best prospect in the minors, Gausman has number two upside due to his power arsenal and ability to command all his pitches. Tall and lean he brings a plus fastball sitting in the 92-98 range with plus movement. His second best pitch is his change-up that features plus fade and solid depth. To accompany his fastball-changeup combo, Gausman shows a solid curveball and slider but due to his arm action he may be more likely to scrap the curve and stick with a plus three-pitch mix down the road. In the meantime, all four pitches work and until he shows otherwise they will remain intact. To complement his power stuff, he displays plus plus command of his pitches and constantly pounds all quadrants of the strike zone. While there is not much more to his ceiling, he is already plus across the board. With the Orioles lacking a front of the rotation starter, if Gausman can translate the same success he had in the minors he may be holding down the top spot for years to come. Through 61.1 innings of work in the minors, Gausman has pitched to a 3.23 ERA and he and the O’s are worth a wager against the overvalued Blue Jays.

                                good luck on your bets

when you have like 10 different penetrating starters like baltimore and they keep bringing n more douchbags... penetrate.. they should draft me to pitch , heck i can throw a few strikes like that gausman bum and walk a whole bunch of them too.

it's not like these guys are hammering morrow.
I did not post that Oriole left handed hitters had historically beat Morrow up. I posted his stats against left handers this year. He has this year and again tonight struggled against lefties. Good swings by just about everyone from that side.

Too bad I didnt get this in pregame but Gausman's got a great fast ball but hes been mixing in too many other pitches and has NOT done a good job at it.
