There is a banner on sbr saying that until the 8th of June Matchbook won't be charging any commission on tennis matches. That's sounds very good as the French Open is coming soon. Also, I took the time to check their website and saw their regular commission is just 1% compared to betfair's 5%. So is there any reason why Matchbook wouldn't take all of Betfair's business very soon?

#6I wonder what their tennis volume will be like for the French.
I'd consider depositing there just for this promo alone but I don't want to go through the hassle if it's just you and I and a few other stragglers putting up decent money for tennis while everyone else is still at BetFair.Comment -

#8Bloody hell - I just took a closer look at their commission structure. If they stick to this and market it properly, they're going to give Betfair a huge run for their money. Yeah, some people at Betfair get less than the 5% rate but the majority don't.
Although they don't have live betting, this will definitely be worth it for pre match bets. Saving 4-5% is huge.
Matchbook Commission Structure
As of April 11th 2011 Matchbook is announcing a new commission structure. Matchbook users who post offers will be charged .5% commission while Matchbook users who accept offers will be charged 1%, calculated on volume.
Matchbook commission rates of 0.5% or 1% will be applied to the win amount for winning trades. For losing trades, it will be applied to the lesser of the stake or win amount.
This subtle change will drive the next phase of growth on the exchange as Matchbook makes a large scale marketing push into Europe and Asia.
Matchbook VIP
In the coming weeks, Matchbook will be unveiling Matchbook Rewards, a multi-tiered customer loyalty program where high volume players are rewarded with even lower commission rates.
Lowest Commission in the Industry
Matchbook is committed to providing the lowest commissions in the industry. Matchbook's goal is to offer the highest return on winning trades and the lowest cost on losing trades compared to any other exchange or bookmaker on the Internet. This can be independently verified by widely used odds comparison websites.Comment -

#16You can´t compare the 1% at MB with 5% at Betfair. 1% is charged regardless if you win or lose on MB and your only charged if you win at Betfair.
And people will gladly pay a higher price for decent liquidity which is an area where no one will be able to compete with Betfair anytime soon. But don´t get me wrong, I really hope it will turn out well for MB since competition on the exchange market would be highly appreciated.
From now I´ll start counting the minutes until someone who hasn´t been close to be affected by the Betfair premium charge will tell us how terrible that one isO/U should be around 36 minutes...

The greatest of all being LIQUIDITY
That will take a good while for Matchbook to catch up on Betfair. It won't happen until Matchbook offers more currencies than just USD for a start.
Matchbook is hardly heard of outside of the US and that won't change in a hurry. They have to spend a good deal on advertising and sponsorships before they'll start attracting many Europeans and Asians.
And your comparison of commission is not valid.
Yet Betfair's is higher but they charge it only on winning bets, Matchbook charge it on both winning and losing so you have to either double Matchbook's or halve Betfair's for a start to compare.
And Betfair offers regulars commission discounts which so far Matchbook hasn't introduced.Comment -

I actually placed a couple of bets there last night and there was bugger all liquidity as there always has been at MB for tennis. I had to go to Betfair, Pinnacle and others to get the balance of my stakes on.
And I didn't know about the no commission deal and see that they have charged me commission on settlement of both those bets! Obviously I must have beaten the gun ?Comment -

#30The crashes at Betfair are less than at Pinnacle the last months, but when you have open bets there, the possible damage can be big. When there is a crash at Pinnacle then you use another bookie. Btw Pinnacle seems to have fixed their problems. I didn't have any accessibility problems the last weeks.Comment -

I think matchbook will very soon become the best book for ante betting (easily takeover pinnacle, as 2% commission beats the juice there), but Betfair will still be the best for live betting. I hope they do some good advertising and improve their liquidity soon.Comment -

#32It is indeed a great promotion, but if I were a player outside of u.s, I will keep a close eye of the payout situation for u.s players. Personally I requested the payout on Feb 28th, but am still waiting to be paid, 70 days and counting.
