    Marty Funkhouser's 2010 tennis
Hey all, been lurking for most of the year and decided to get in on the fun.

    Friday, June 25
I know what you're thinking: another moron with a parlay. I can't deny the moron part but I like my chances with this one. I know there are some huge favorites but I try to provide some insight into each pick so you can see where my head's at and see that I'm not just blindly picking favorites.

    DJOKOVIC/HEWITT/MAYER/RODDICK/CLIJSTERS/V. WILLIAMS
    4.37 to win 8.39

    DJOKOVIC/MONTANES
Djoker has a 3-0 H2H against Montanes with all three meetings on clay. If Djoker can handle Montanes on his preferred surface then he shouldn't have any trouble with him here, as Montanes owns a 12-18 lifetime record on grass and hasn't been setting the world on fire this week.

    HEWITT/MONFILS
After seeing some of his match against Beck, I don't think Monfils is close to 100% and against a superior grass court player like Hewitt, that's not good news for him.

    MAYER/LU
Mayer is the better grass court player and it's really not close. Mayer is 15-8 on grass in his career and took out Cilic and Fish and has looked pretty good doing it. He has made it to the quarters here before, albeit in 2004, but he's comfortable on the grass. Lu has had a pretty easy run to the third round here, with his two opponents combining for a 8-12 career record on grass. His second round opponent, Przysiezny, stated after the match that he was bothered by a back injury which affected his serve. Safe to say that Mayer is a step up here and with Mayer leading the career H2H @ 2-0 (granted, the encounters were years ago), I'll take him.

    RODDICK/KOHLSCHREIBER
Roddick has stated that he's pretty much putting all his eggs in the Wimbledon basket and obviously belives he can make a deep run again here. His opponent in the second round, LLodra, has a game that is perfect for grass with his serve and volley and he has been in great form leading up to WImbledon. He gave Roddick a little trouble in the first set, but once Roddick brought out the serve and volley, it was curtains for Llodra. Kohlschreiber was pushed to the limit in his last match against Gabashvili, who is only 2-9 in his career on grass. Color me unimpressed.

    CLIJSTERS/KIRILENKO
Kirilenko is so hot but she sucks on grass (12-18) and Clijsters is a machine.

    V. WILLIAMS/KLEYBANOVA
Over the last five years, Venus is 26-2 at Wimbledon with losses to her sister and Jankovic. All but three of those wins were straight set wins and she did beat Kleybanova two years ago, 6-3 6-4. She dismantled Makarova last round, who has had an impressive run leading up to Wimbledon witha handful of good wins en route to the title at Eastbourne. Kleybanova has nice some return stats this week, with her break points converted in double digits, but she also has faced her share of break points. I don't think Venus will give her nearly as many chances, while Venus should be seeing plenty of break opportunities herself.

Lu must be taking lessons from Isner and Dr. Ivo. Caught a huge break with the retirement. I'm mad at myself because this was the matchup that I looked at the least and just kind of looked at the last few scorelines and very old H2H. I'll take it though.

Better to be lucky than good, I suppose. Mayer's retirement makes it 4.37 to win 5.07.

Nice call on everything except Mayer, great analysis. Also love the name, Curb is one of the best shows ever. A lot of funny stuff with Marty Funkhouser too but I think Richard Lewis is great too. Looking forward to your thoughts on tomorrow.

Funkhouser's delivery kills me, especially his joke from last season. Thanks for the kind words on the parlay; looking at some plays for tomorrow and hope to have something up soon.

Two Frenchmen in a parlay, I must be crazy.

                    TSONGA/BENNETEAU/LI
                    3.00 to win 3.20

                    TSONGA/KAMKE
End of the road for Kamke here. His comeback wins over Lopez and Seppi are nice, but Tsonga is a completely different animal, especially in terms of serve. Lopez is a nice grass court player, but he was in the Eastbourne finals prior to Wimbledon and was on court for about 8.5 hours there, so fatigue may have been a factor in his match with Kamke. And Seppi was horrific in Kamke's second round match, only converting one of 14 break points. This is a huge step up in skill level for Kamke, and like I said earlier, some service stats should be noted. Kamke's first two opponents served up a combined 13 aces and 12 double faults while only landing 54% of their first serves. It should also be noted that the set Seppi took off Kamke came when was landing about 70% of his first balls. Kamke ended up taking the next three sets, but Seppi's first serve percentage dropped into the low 50s. I don't think Tsonga will be doing Kamke any similar favors on serve, as he is averaging an ace per game and is landing 67% of his first serves so far this week. Additionally, I wasn't too impressed with Kamke's serve and with Tsonga's ability to hold serve somewhat easily, I can see Kamke cracking and providing Tsonga with enough break chances and a ticket to the fourth round. Only slight concern here is Tsonga's retirement at Roland Garros, even though he looks to be healthy now. Even if he's not 100%, I still think he has enough talent to get by.

                    BENNETEAU/FOGNINI
I didn't see the Fognini/Verdasco match, but by all accounts, Nando was pretty awful, so I can't really read too much into Fognini's win there. Fognini's comeback against Russell was nice, but Russell is 10-13 in his career on grass. Sure, Fognini deserves some credit for both wins and I don't mean to completely discredit the man, but I have a sneaking suspicion he got some help from his opponents. To be sure, Benny hasn't had a cakewalk either, with each match going the distance. Like Fognini, he has gotten some assists from the competition, with Vliegen coughing up a 5-2 lead in the fifth set. Anyway, Benny has served up 54 aces in his first two matches, with 18 against Vliegen and 36 against Beck. I like him to continue that trend and pick up some easy points, while getting enough chances on Fognini's weak serve (Russell was 10/13 on break points) to advance.

                    LI/RODIONOVA
Li has had a pretty easy time of it so far this week while Rodionova has been pushed to three sets in her first two matches. The win over Kuzzy is nice, but I'm not a huge believer in Kuzzy in her current form. I like Li to exploit Rodionova's serve, as she's only holding her serve at only a 67% clip and is facing an average of a break point per game in her first two matches (with both going three sets). Li has played well thus far (holding serve 89% of the time and seeing nearly a break chance per return game) and has a great 24-10 career mark on grass. Rodionova took a few medical timeouts in her last match with Kuznetsova, so that may also be a factor here. Li also withdrew from Eastbourne last week after winning the first set, citing a knee problem (I think), although I suspect she just wanted some time off before Wimbledon after winning the title the previous week in Birmingham, where she took out Sharapova and Rezai. One final note: Li beat Rodionova here two years in three sets. She dropped the first set 3-6 and took the final two, 6-0 6-1.

Still capping myself those are some smaller plays that I got in with the multi sports parlays. I actually had Li on that match the she retired and I made a note to be careful with her and that crap. Im also not sold on Benneteau as he has played an easier draw and has had some let down matches on grass himself.

Agree on the Tsonga and Li plays. As far as the other ones, I haven't researched them too much, but here are a few thoughts:

Querrey and Malisse are both excellent on grass. Malisse is 8-2 in the last year and Sam is 11-1. One of Malisse's losses came a few weeks ago at Queen's Club when Sam beat him 6-3 7-5. Sam had an assload of break opportunities (15) but could only convert three of them, so he definitely got a read on Malisse's serve (Malisse was 1/2 on break chances). They've both been playing well this week as well. The one big problem I have with Sam is that mentally he can lose it at any time so in matches I could see getting tight (such as this one), I tend to avoid him. And based on some quotes, I don't know if Querrey is really all that comfortable yet on grass. He's got the talent, but his problems between the ears give me some pause and make me avoid him in situations like this.

Also like Ferrer. Chardy is another nutcase so it can be difficult to predict which Chardy will show up. Ferrer's best surface is clay, but he has a good grass record (19-10) while Chardy is 7-8. I read the ball is bouncing pretty high on these courts, which will help Ferrer as he is a natural clay courter. Ferrer doesn't have the greatest serve, but it's good enough and his return game is top notch.

To be honest with you, I don't know very much about Azarenka and I know nothing about Kvitova. I see Aza has beaten her twice, both times in straight sets (one on clay, one on hard court). Kvitova is 2-4 on grass while Azarenka is 14-7. I think she has the reputation of being a whackjob, so I guess you never can tell when she's going to go off the rails. Like I said, I don't know much, but this is all I see just taking a quick look at it.

Good luck with whatever you decide to play.

Also thinking of taking the Nadal/Matheiu over and the Tsonga/Benn over as straight plays.

                                          Thoughts?

I actually didn't look too much at those WTA matches you asked about. As for Murray/Querrey, I like Murray. Querrey has never taken a set off Murray and Murray's superior returning skills should be able to handle Querrey's serve. If Murray can take that away then he shouldn't have any problem. For the PHM/Nadal over, I don't play those as my book doesn't offer them until the quarters, but based on the form of last week, it's probably not a bad play.

Nice effort by Clijsters after getting thumped in the first set.

Can't play totals or handicaps until the next round, so I have to go with something like this even though I'm not crazy about it. Shame too, there were some totals snd handicaps I liked.

DSI. It was one of the only places that wasn't a royal pain in the ass for me to deposit. I could have sworn they put up totals and handicaps for the quarters and later, but maybe it's the semis.
