    Wimbledon and the Williams sisters
Something tells me that they do not both go deep this year. When was the last time a player won or got to the final of a slam after having missed all tuneup events (regardless of how many grasscourt tuneups there are relative to other surfaces) on a particular surface? Their transitions begin in round 1 and that may not bode well. Should 2 players who skip all grasscourt tuneups be both the heavy favorites to win on grass? The lines are obviously based on their past success on the surface, but beware.

    Just an observation.

Lines probably aren't worth it but it really shows the sad state of affairs with women's tennis. The other girls are so bad that the William's sisters will get far in this tournament eventhough they haven't played any warmup events.

Who is Serena Williams last year at Wimbledon & Serena at Wimbledon in 2008. Won it all last year, lost to Venus in 2008. Serena is so practiced at just showing up for Slams that tournament prep means little to her.

Watch out for this 11 year old Womens player!!!

Only a few more years and then we can take her to the bank...

She's only 11, but tennis phenom Maria Shishkina is already a heavy hitter.

Yeah, I have to agree with this. The lines will always be inflated as far as the Williams sisters are concerned, but it would be very difficult for me to fade Serena at least. Venus I'm always on the fence about lately, but Serena in a Slam is lethal.

That girl is probably gonna end up a burn out from hell like Capriati. Getting press at 11 years old is never good.

Serena is +235. Venus next at +490.

Can anyone answer my question concerning a player in the modern era who won a slam after not having played a match on that slam's surface in a year?

Serena won Wimbledon in '09. Her last grass appearance before that was Wimbledon '08.

And just to add to that, Serena made the finals in Wimbledon in '08 and lost to Venus in the final. Her last grass appearance before that was Wimbledon '07. As I said, very hard to fade this woman in Slams.

Thanks for the info Shari! Venus will be a fade, but agreed, its difficult to fade Serena in a slam...the field of legitimate grass contenders is so miniscule and top heavy. Different story on hard and clay, but there is simply no one else in the Williams league on grass. Venus may be a fade.

No problem! I've been leery of Venus for quite awhile now. I'll still put money on her from time to time, but nowhere near as much as I used to and it's usually only when she's playing someone who is a trainwreck of sorts. I just don't have faith in her anymore to get it done against someone of comparable caliber. That's not saying she won't win another Slam, but I wouldn't be too shocked if she didn't. She's said for awhile that she's focusing more on life outside of tennis and good for her, but it's not good for people who back her with their hard earned money.

Best of luck with your plays!

These gals are so damn good. Look to them as strong contenders in doubles play as well.

The top 3 contenders are Venus, Serana and Kim.

Henin could go deep as well, but I heard she is meeting Kim in the round of 16
