the people who believe in them enough to think they will win and think they have skills and abilities enough that they'd stake their own money on that fact- those are fans in an untraditional usage of the word.

not really... i bet on teams and players and fighters I don't necessarily like. can't always let favor affect your decision too much. i try to stay objective, lost money betting on the home team plenty of times.

I can see where they might appreciate support or the faith in them, but to say they really give a shit about bettors and consider them fans is completely different.

sometimes they are one in the same even tho they are not synonymous. there are some players and teams that i like more because they have won me money for example.

Did yesterday's Russian vs. Russian matches do anything to squash the rule about not betting on these sort of matches? Nope. You had Petrova win when she had never beaten Kuznetsova. Safina retires before the end of the first so no one wins anything on the match. Fish fishy.

i used to say i dont trust russian tennis players, now i think i shouldnt ever.
