Kerber's the worst #1 ranked player in the history of WTA. In fact, it's the first time in RG history that the #1 ranked player has lost in the 1st round. She's 6-11 vs the top 50 in 2017. She should be ranked around 35. Not #1.

This isn't as much of an upset as it would appear on paper. Clay is probably Kerber's worst surface and Makarova is no slouch. In fact, Makarova would easily rank much higher than she currently is if the Russian mafia wasn't getting her to tank games.
You're right. The books had Makarova at only +130 knowing what was coming.
