I took a look a who Tomic has beat in the last 10 matches or so, none of them can return as well as Simon when he is on. Simon has not been in the greatest form but I think he can take a set here. Tomic serves well but the Unforced errors come into play when he faces a solid returner due to his lack of patience. Neither guys have points to defend here but I don't see why either player wouldn't try to make some points here.

KA has amazing raw materials...along with Cilic & Raonic the only amazon serving bots that can actually play points that go over the net more than 3 times (Karlo, Isner and most other "Lurches" can't)...

of the three, Raonic the only one who's stable and focused most of the time...

Cilic on and off, gets in the zone for a while where he's as good as Raonic...then'll fall apart for no reason like Monfils or Fogs

KA very reliable to beat anyone below him in rankings...but his psych-wiring will just not let him "rise to the occasion" and score a signature win (he's been a pubic hair from beating Dimitrov twice now in their last two meetings...both time it's like a circuit-breaker went off)...

great player...we just gotta remember he's got that "when the going gets really tough" circuit-breaker defect...seems like it won't ever let him break thru to that next level where Raonic is most of the time and Cilic is some of the time

I like both these plays. I think Venus may try to play a quick match so she can have time to rest for the US Open. A quick turnaround from Montreal on a faster court will not be ideal. Safarova on the other hand lost a close match her last time out. She's a power player as well but I think she's rested and ready to go here.

With Vasek fresh off an MRI and long bogota/Atlanta/Washington run, I think he may take it easy here. His back flared up again in Toronto vs Gasquet. With Sock losing as well he might just take it easy and focus on doubles here befor the US Open.
